Part Time: 9 hours per week





Fixed-term: 9 months from September 2025



The Schools of Mathematics and Geosciences, along with the Business School, are looking for a masters student to contribute to a project to develop a suite of educational, data-driven materials for teachers to empower mathematics students to develop modelling skills in climate and sustainability contexts. This 9-month project will also look at how educational content can be transferred and recontextualised across disciplines with different pedagogical cultures.

This post will be appointed at Grade UE05, step 1 which is 29,179 per annum, pro rata (15.99 per hour).



Earth Fellowships are only open to current postgraduate and PhD students at the University of Edinburgh based in the UK. Please do not apply if you are not a current University of Edinburgh student.



Your skills and attributes for success:



Current University of Edinburgh masters student in the academic year '25/'26 academic year. An undergraduate degree in a highly-numerate subject, (for example, geosciences, informatics, physics, engineering, mathematics, economics). An interest in education for sustainable development. Excellent written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and good attention to detail for editing written pieces. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders stemming from a range of different disciplines. Experience writing computer code (e.g., Python) to be used in a teaching environment or to be used by others (desirable but not essential). Experience working in a climate/sustainability science area (desirable but not essential).

As an Earth Fellow, you will be joining a diverse, fun and dynamic team of researchers, students and staff all working together to address the global climate emergency. As part of the Earth Fellows programme, you will have access to co-working space, exciting networking and personal development opportunities and opportunities to contribute towards partnerships and solutions for climate change on a global scale.





Earth Fellows work on individual and team-based projects which contribute to the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Earth Initiative's work on climate change research-led impact, innovation, engagement, and teaching.
