Role Overview
CalMac Ferries Limited are seeking a proactive and experience Agile Project Manager to lead client-side on the ongoing development of the mission-critical software platforms. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the successful planning, coordination and delivery of the platform's ongoing development and optimisation, working closely with internal stakeholders, third-party software partners and external stakeholders such as Transport Scotland.
The project manager will require to have strong experience in managing delivery of technology and digital solutions in a highly available operational environment combined with a publicly visible brand.
The eBooking Agile Project Manager will act as the key interface between external and internal stakeholders and the technical delivery teams (a mix of eDEA, Talk Think Do and third-party software providers and the internal IT team) championing delivery, continuous improvement and collaboration to assure stability of the eBooking Product while ensuring business objectives are met on time, within scope and to the desired quality.
Principal Accountabilities
Lead and coordinate the ongoing introduction, delivery and enhancement of strategic software platforms following Agile practices
Manage end-to-end product release lifecycles from discovery through to deployment, with a focus on incremental value delivery
Serve as the client-side project management expert in forums such as sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives and daily stand-ups
Facilitate alignment across stakeholders, digital/IT teams and third-party suppliers
Maintain and evolve a clear product backlog in partnership with Product Owners, business sponsors and technical delivery leads
Ensure risks, issues, and dependencies are actively managed and communicated
Champion Agile best practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement across cross-functional teams
Manage the development of business cases to support project funding
Oversee partner relationships and hold delivery partners to agreed SLAs and KPIs in software development and product releases
Provide regular status updates, reports, and insights to senior leadership and governance forums
Support change management and adoption planning for releases
Management of project risk and issues
Build & manage a internal delivery team that includes Business Analyst, User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) & Testing roles
Developing the resourcing and delivery approaches that will be included in the programme strategy
Engaging with the Calmac Centre Of Excellence (COE) to ensure software platform changes are incorporated into business practice
Change Management & Adoption. Working with Change Management resources fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing, learning, and reflection across the programme
Ensuring observations and recommendations are fed into decision-making processes
Developing the decision-making, issue resolution, and risk response approaches in the product development and release strategy, ensuring that they are applied
Providing decision-ready information for governance (typically monthly Product Steering Committee)
Qualifications, skills and experience
5+ years' experience in Agile project management, ideally in client-side, consultancy or technology (software) provider environments
Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (e.g, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and associated delivery methodologies
Agile certifications (e.g., Scrum Master, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2 Agile, or SAFe Agilist)
Experience with common Agile delivery tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence)
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based platform deployments
Experience working in data-informed environments, where user behaviour, analytics, and experimentation inform prioritisation
Proven track record of leading software/platform projects, ideally within booking, ticketing, ecommerce and digital applications
Demonstrated experience working with third-party software providers and managing delivery across multiple stakeholders
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, from technical teams to senior executives
Experience in travel, transport, hospitality, or event-based sectors
Ability to define, monitor and communicate project plans, roadmaps, risks, and progress metrics effectively
Confident in facilitating workshops, retrospectives, and prioritisation sessions
Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and business acumen
Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills
Customer service ethos and a passion for delivering high quality project outputs and excellence in services deployed; ability to hold others, including third parties, to similarly high standards
Ability to work under pressure and think clearly and logically in challenging situations
Versatility: the role requires a range of interpersonal and professional skills to deliver change in a software development and release management environment
