Overview



The EC&I Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems across plant or site operations. This role ensures that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:



Perform planned preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems. Install, commission, and calibrate instruments including pressure, temperature, level, and flow sensors. Diagnose faults in PLCs (Omron as advantage), SCADA systems, and other automation/control systems. Support electrical maintenance of motors, switchgear, power distribution panels Maintain and update control system documentation (wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, etc.). Ensure compliance with electrical and instrumentation safety standards and regulations. Liaise with engineers and operators to resolve technical issues and optimize system performance. Participate in plant shutdowns, upgrades, and project installations. Maintain records of maintenance activities, calibration certificates, and test results. Respond to emergency maintenance calls and support 24/7 operations if required.

Qualifications:



NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Control Systems (or equivalent). Valid electrical certification (e.g., 17th/18th Edition for UK roles). Knowledge of DCS, SCADA, PLC (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.) and field instrumentation. Familiarity with ATEX environments (for hazardous areas) is a plus. Strong understanding of safe working practices and safety regulations (e.g., Permit to Work systems).

Experience:



4+ years of experience in a similar EC&I technician role. Experience in heavy industry, power generation, oil & gas, water treatment, or similar fields preferred. Proven ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings and schematics.

Skills:



Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Proficiency with test equipment (multimeters, loop calibrators, meggers, etc.). Good communication and teamwork abilities. Capable of working under pressure and within tight deadlines.

Working Conditions:



May involve work in confined spaces, at heights, or in hazardous environments. Shift work, overtime, and on-call duties may be required. Use of PPE and adherence to health and safety protocols is mandatory.
