We seek a
detail-oriented, technically skilled Economist with strong programming and data science skills
to join our
Subscriptions Team
in Europe. This role will support the enhancement, maintenance, and innovation of our flagship subscription products: the
Global Travel Service (GTS), Global City Travel (GCT) and Air Passenger Forecast (APF)
databases and associated outputs. The successful candidate will assist in refining forecasting models,
expanding data-driven product features, and streamlining internal workflows
under the guidance of senior team members. The role will involve working with the rest of the Tourism Economics team who are based across a range of office locations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in developing and maintaining Python-based econometric models to expand our product and data offerings (e.g., new forecast variables, scenario tools, innovative client outputs), checking & troubleshooting tools and optimise internal workflows.
Collaborate with technology teams to integrate new data sources, automate processes, and deploy systems on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, etc).
Contribute to the design of tools that enhance product scalability, improve efficiency and reduce manual effort in data validation, reporting, and visualization.
Support the update and forecasting process for GTS and GCT.
Stay informed on industry and technological trends to propose innovative product enhancements and process improvements.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Advanced skill in Python (required) for both data analysis, scripting, and automation, additional software development skills are desirable.
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
Engaging and managing client relationships
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and interest in learning DevOps practices (e.g., CI/CD) to streamline workflows.
Strong analytical skills with experience handling large datasets (time series, cross-sectional).
Proactive problem-solving and commitment to delivering innovative, scalable solutions.
Understanding of econometric techniques and software is required.
Basic knowledge of SQL and data visualization tools is desirable.
Some understanding, experience and interest with other technologies e.g. Web development (React, Node.js etc), and other programming languages (Golang, Rust etc) is desirable.
A degree in Economics is essential with 2 years of professional experience preferred.
Ability to work effectively in teams across offices and within tight deadlines
Ability to plan workload, ensuring sufficient time for quality assurance from senior colleagues
Attention to detail and a commitment to going the extra mile to produce rigorous, accurate work, within the constraints of the time and resources available.
