We are currently recruiting for a Bookshop & Cafe Senior Sales Assistant role in our Faith Mission Edinburgh Bookshop & Cafe.

The Faith Mission Bookshops and Cafes provide a neutral environment where members of the public can come and enquire about the Christian Faith while sourcing appropriate books and materials, and engage in conversations with our members of staff and fellow customers about the Christian faith.

The Bookshop and Cafe Senior Sales Assistant will work as part of our current team to continue and build on the good reputation and effective ministry that already takes place in the shop.

The Bookshop & Cafe Senior Sales Assistant will perform a vital role as part of the team in delivering excellent customer service.

The Senior Sales Assistant will assist the Bookshop & Cafe Manager (the Manager) in the effective running of the bookshop & Cafe in line with the objectives of the Faith Mission. They will ensure that a friendly and welcoming environment is maintained, and stock and merchandise is displayed in such a way that helps customers easily find what they need.. They will be attentive to customer needs helping to ensure that good quality food and beverages and products are always served.

Alongside these practical duties, a further key part of the role is talking about what Christian Faith is and what Jesus has done for them when people enquire or request more details about their personal testimony.

The Faith Mission exists to reach people with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As an interdenominational agency, it works closely with all Christian churches that share a similar concern for passionate evangelism and evangelical truth, especially in areas where there is little or no biblical witness. Due to the nature of the role, there is an Occupational Requirement that the postholder is a committed Christian, under Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the

Equality Act 2010, an active member of a local church, and in agreement with the Faith Mission Values and Statement of Faith.

Qualifications



Experience in a cafe/restaurant and hospitality in a senior role Previous experience of working in/knowledge of a bookshop Strong catering skills, with a focus on food preparation Previous food serving experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment Barista experience, including knowledge of coffee brewing techniques Understanding of food safety regulations and practices Excellent customer service skills and a friendly demeanor

A good level of physical fitness and stamina will be required for this role, as you are on your feet most of the day and lifting/moving equipment and produce

The advert is for a permanent, part-time role of 30hrs/ week (includes Saturdays)

This is a weekday role with weekend shifts on rotation, and occasional evening events.

Pay will be NMW based on your age band and guidelines from April '25
