We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and organised
Magazine Editor/Journalist
to lead the editorial direction of our regional magazine, which focuses on issues impacting young people, education, community safety, youth justice, and grassroots sports. This is an exciting opportunity to create a respected publication that reaches stakeholders across education, emergency services, youth services, charities, local government, and community initiatives.
The Magazine Editor will play a central role in curating high-quality, impactful content that reflects the voices and experiences of professionals and young people across the North West.
Key Responsibilities
Content Planning & Strategy
Develop and maintain the editorial calendar for print and digital editions
Identify key themes, timely topics, and feature ideas aligned with our mission and audience
Content Creation & Commissioning
Source, research, and write original content including features, interviews, and editorials
Commission articles and columns from contributors, industry experts, and community voices
Ensure all content reflects editorial standards and is appropriate for our broad readership
Editing & Proofing
Review, edit, and fact-check submitted content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and tone
Work with writers and contributors to improve submitted work where necessary
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth justice teams, emergency services, sports organisations, charities, and community leaders
Work collaboratively with partners to feature relevant initiatives, case studies, and campaigns
Production & Collaboration
Liaise with graphic designers, photographers, and printers to manage layout and design
Coordinate with marketing and distribution teams to ensure timely publication and outreach
Manage editorial deadlines and workflows to meet production schedules
Digital & Social Media Integration
Collaborate on web and social media content to align with magazine features
Suggest content adaptations for digital platforms to increase reach and engagement
Analytics & Improvement
Monitor reader feedback and analytics to inform content decisions
Evaluate each edition's impact and continuously look for ways to improve quality and relevance
Ideal Candidate
Strong editorial experience, preferably in journalism, publishing, education, or the non-profit sector
Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
Passion for youth issues, education, and community development
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple contributors and deadlines
Confidence in working independently and as part of a small, passionate team
Experience with content management systems, Adobe InDesign, or similar publishing tools is a plus
