The Job Profile
Simon & Schuster UK's Summit Books team is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join within the Adult Editorial division.
Reporting to the Publisher, Summit Books UK, the role would consist of editorial and administrative support and helping to oversee the smooth and timely publication of the titles on the list.
The Job Role
Administrative core responsibilities will include generating and maintaining editorial data on our internal systems, ensuring that books get to copyeditors, proof-readers, typesetters and authors on time (i.e. critical path), be a key point of contact between Editorial and Sales, Marketing, Publicity and Art, processing and managing relevant payments, submitting prize entries, general admin (sending post and preparing mail-outs, minute taking when required etc) and liaising with freelancers, generating and processing related paperwork.
Editorial responsibilities include; assisting with writing jacket copy and briefing jackets, creating/updating/checking Advance Information Sheets, preparing prelims, end-matter and corrections for paperbacks/reprints/new editions, collating proof-readers' and authors' proof corrections when required, general editorial research, liaising with Rights, Marketing and Sales on catalogues, reading and reporting on submissions and regularly communicating with authors and their agents; contributing ideas for backlist reinvigoration and monitoring titles online and updating metadata.
The Candidate Profile
Ideally you will be highly efficient, adept at prioritising and working to deadlines, and have a meticulous eye for detail. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Previous experience in publishing is not required, but a genuine love of literary fiction and serious non-fiction, and the ability to read widely are essential. Awareness of or interest in the publishing landscape would be welcomed.
