About our Team:
  • The Books Editorial team commissions and develops a wide range of texts and online resources across the social sciences and vocational areas.
  • The new Editorial Assistant role is within our Psychology Books team.
  • The successful candidate will support a Senior Commissioning Editor and a Publisher in Psychology and focus on textbooks for undergraduate students.
  • The successful candidate will also work closely with colleagues in the sales, marketing, production, and design teams.

Could you be our new Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor? Are you:
  • A proactive person who constantly looks for the best ways to get the job done;
  • Someone with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, and the ability to handle a varied workload and deadlines efficiently;
  • Able to work quickly while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Able to hold courteous, persuasive conversations in writing and in person;
  • Proficient at using standard IT packages (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Capable of showing initiative and self-motivation?
Your new role:
  • Provides administrative and commissioning support to the Publisher/Senior Commissioning Editor in the Psychology team.
  • Assists and supports in the day-to-day work activities of the Publisher/Senior Commissioning Editor in their development of new projects.
  • Organises the reviewing of book proposals by finding and briefing suitable reviewers, chasing feedback to deadlines, and arranging payments.
  • Accurate preparation of contracts for new book projects, ensuring they are signed and processed promptly.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and up-to-date information on Sage\xe2\x80\x99s internal books database and internal tracking spreadsheets.
  • Communicates regularly with authors to ensure manuscripts are delivered on time and to plan, and to answer author queries.
  • Prepares manuscripts and accompanying information required by production, marketing, and design colleagues.
  • Researches the market for new books and competing titles to inform publishing decisions and strategy.
  • Represents Sage at conferences and events (where appropriate) to build relationships with authors and contribute positively to the reputation of the company and our publishing.
  • Supports Editorial in helping to deliver each list\xe2\x80\x99s objectives and initiatives.
  • Ensures that Sage offers a high level of service to its authors and editors within the Editorial Assistant\xe2\x80\x99s areas of responsibility.
  • Works closely with colleagues within Sage, both across departments and globally.
