Grain Media is a two time Academy Award-winning production company, specialising in bold, thought-provoking documentaries for film and broadcast television. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Post Production / Edit Assistant to join our Post Production team, supporting editors and productions across a diverse slate of projects.
JOB PURPOSE
To support the Post Production Team in the day to day operations, ensuring smooth delivery of our projects.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Post Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for both technical and creative support across the post production department. From ingest through to final delivery, you will help ensure media is organised, workflows are efficient, and output meets the highest technical standards. This role combines editorial assistance with hands-on technical edit support work.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDING (WITHOUT LIMITATION)
To support the Post Production Supervisor in the on-time delivery and on-budget execution of projects.
Collaborate closely with production teams and editors to ensure efficient daily operations.
Respond to general post production enquiries, client and external vendor communications.
Prepare and maintain edit projects for editors. (Primarily
Avid Media Composer
)
Ingest, sync and group rushes. Export, upload and share cuts for review.
Assist with conforms, EDLs, online prep, and sound/grade turnovers.
Assist with the QC and delivery of final assets to meet broadcast and digital delivery specs - ensuring deliveries are error-free.
Manage media across Grain's catalogue of work. Maintaining LTO media archiving processes, restoration and organisation of completed projects.
Provide first-line technical support for post-production software and hardware.
Ensure current workflows and processes are followed. Whilst supporting implementation of new technical workflows when necessary.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, guides, and logs across all projects and the company.
Assist with the installation, configuration and maintenance of post-production systems and applications.
Oversee and monitor rushes pipelines to ensure all media is securely transferred from production on location to Grain for post production.
Support the Post Production Supervisor in providing accurate information for negotiation of quotes for external post services including - archive, library music, translation/transcription and other post production services.
Monitor and manage edit suites and equipment, escalating maintenance needs to the Post Production Supervisor to prevent any downtime.
Help distribute content for festivals, awards submissions and marketing in a thorough and timely manner.
Assist with occasional user training for both new staff and freelance support where necessary.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
Have proven experience with
Avid Media Composer
, with good knowledge of
Adobe Premiere Pro
,
Photoshop
,
After Effects
and
DaVinci Resolve.
Strong understanding of codecs, digital formats and current camera technologies.
Possess broad technical proficiency in post-production workflows and IT, with experience on Mac, Windows, and shared storage systems.
Be comfortable troubleshooting hardware, software and workflow issues under pressure.
Possess excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and communication skills.
Be proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Undertake duties in accordance with the company strategy, complying with systems and policies both in actuality and spirit in a timely manner.
Be flexible with working hours when required to support operational needs and meet delivery deadlines.
