UKCEH is looking for an experienced EDS/Digital Strategy Project Manager to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

Working at UKCEH is rewarding. Our science makes a real difference, enabling people and the environment to prosper, and enriching society. We are the custodians of a wealth of environmental data, collected by UKCEH and its predecessors over the course of more than 60 years.

As a valued member of our team, you\xe2\x80\x99ll get:

  • 27 days annual leave, rising to 29 days after five years
  • 10% employer pension contribution
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • 24 hour, 365-day access to support with physical, mental, social, health or financial issues
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • And much more.
UKCEH is seeking a highly-skilled project manager to join the Environmental Data Science (EDS) group - an expanding multidisciplinary team that draws on co-design approaches to develop the digital research infrastructure for environmental science.

You\xe2\x80\x99ll be joining a team of 28 dedicated and passionate individuals who boast a diverse range of skills, disciplinary backgrounds, and project experience, coordinating projects which are competitively won nationally (e.g. Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC)) and internationally (e.g. eLTER and BioDT), as well as those run under our internally managed National Capability portfolio (e.g. UK-SCAPE project).

This post has arisen following an internal promotion and represents an opportunity to join a busy and growing team. This role will coordinate these projects to ensure the group achieves its aims of increasing the value and capabilities of digital research infrastructure for environmental science. In return, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be joining a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute that\xe2\x80\x99s committed to recruiting talented people like you, progressing your career and giving you the support you need to thrive at UKCEH.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborate with the EDS Group Leader and the UKCEH Head of Environmental Digital Strategy, as well as our cross-disciplinary team, to lead the coordination of EDS group projects and the Digital Strategy activities.
  • Lead and maintain project schedules, finances, resource allocations and end to end delivery plans
  • Direct the planning and delivery of multiple large and complex projects, as well as the links between those projects
  • Manage project risks and issues, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place
  • Organise and run collaborative activities to build relationships with the project team, funders, partners and stakeholders
  • Derive and implement policies for the governance of the digital strategy
As well as coordinating the delivery of projects across the EDS group, this postholder will also work with the Head of Environmental Digital Strategy on activities across UKCEH to support the development of the Digital Strategy. This strategy is an exciting initiative that will transform how UKCEH approaches the opportunities that new technologies and transdisciplinary research bring to environmental science.

For the role of EDS/Digital Strategy Project Manager, we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for somebody who:
  • Holds a degree in a relevant subject, or has equivalent experience in the management of complex project delivery
  • Demonstrates an excellent knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques
  • Ideally holds a recognised project management qualification such as Agile PMI-ACP, PRINCE2, PMP
  • Has a proven track record of successfully managing and delivering large projects and ideally have previous experience of writing tenders
  • Ideally has an interest in environmental and data science, and has previously worked within a research environment
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who is comfortable working in an agile way, but also seeking the variety and complexity that a research environment can offer.

If we\xe2\x80\x99ve just described you, we\xe2\x80\x99d love to meet. Apply now.
