We're Hiring! Education & Public Engagement Co-Ordinator

Permanent | Full-time | 24,000 to start | Free onsite parking
Must love marine life and engaging with people| Welsh speaker to a good standard or able to start lessons to become fluent straight away| Staff discounts and discretionary bonus scheme
Do you love British wildlife, thrive on engaging with the public, and dream of working by the sea? Come join our passionate team at
Anglesey Sea Zoo
, the only aquarium in Wales, where we're not just about marine tanks, we're about conservation and marine action!
We're on a mission to educate and influence the public and protect British marine life. From beach cleans to seashore safaris, from STEM outreach to Teach Meets, from endangered species reintroductions to stranded sea turtle rescue, we're looking for a people-person with a big heart for the ocean and a knack for delivering engaging experiences that leave a ripple of change.
As our
Education & Public Engagement Co-Ordinator
, you'll:
Be the face of our public engagement (online and in person).
Promote, plan & deliver educational activities and school sessions.
Plan, lead and co-ordinate our community beach cleans and citizen science projects.
Represent us at outreach events and coordinate group visits.
Collaborate and maintain links with other conservation organisations, including local and national NGOs, and industry bodies, including the ASE and STEM
Constantly share our work and achievements through regular updates and PR coverage, through social media and websites
Represent us through written and spoken media coverage, particularly in Welsh.
Promote, design and produce updated bilingual educational packages, graphics and informative materials site-wide in collaboration with our amazing Zoo Team!
Work directly with our amazing animals for at least 30% of the year. Yes, really!
We're looking for someone who ideally:
Can speak Welsh fluently (or is on their way).
Is confident in front of groups, speaking in public and to camera and writing social media posts.
Is organised, creative, can work effectively both independently and in a team and loves marine conservation!
Has a background in education, outreach, marine biology, conservation or environmental science.
Has a full driving licence and access to transport (we're off the beaten track).
This is a new role with the opportunity to grow and evolve. While the starting salary is 24,000+, we are open to reviewing this for the right candidate, particularly someone who can demonstrate impact in areas such as STEM teaching, group visit engagement, and effective marketing. If the role is successfully developed, we anticipate it could expand significantly within the next 2-3 years, potentially including the management of a small seasonal team and a correspondingly higher salary.
That said, we want to avoid setting unrealistic expectations from the outset. We're looking for someone proactive, self-motivated, and aligned with the Zoo's conservation goals. Someone who is passionate about building the role and demonstrating their value, rather than expecting automatic salary progression. This is as much a strategic and creative marketing role as it is educational, and we are excited by the potential it holds for the right individual.
