About this Role

St Bart's Multi Academy Trust is thrilled to announce a new and exciting opportunity for an Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to join our team!

This crucial multi-site role will see you working proactively across several academies located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and Whitchurch, with the potential for more academies to buy into the service in the future. As our EWO, you will play a vital role in promoting regular school attendance and supporting the overall welfare of pupils, ensuring all children have the opportunity to access a full and enriching education.

This position is focused on preventative and early intervention work, aiming to resolve attendance issues before they escalate. You'll be instrumental in identifying and addressing barriers to attendance, implementing early intervention strategies, and providing practical support to families. While academies will handle statutory actions by referring directly to relevant Local Authorities, your expert advice and guidance will be invaluable.

What you'll do:

Champion Attendance:

monitor attendance data, identify pupils at risk of persistent absence, and develop bespoke attendance improvement plans in collaboration with academy staff, parents/carers, and other professionals.

Provide Vital Support:

conduct attendance meetings and welfare visits to homes as required, understanding reasons for absence and agreeing on strategies for improvement. You'll also signpost families to relevant internal and external support services, such as counselling, family support, food banks, and housing advice.

Build Strong Partnerships:

liaise effectively with academy leaders and other school staff, and develop strong working relationships with external agencies.

Be an Expert Resource:

provide advice and guidance to academy staff on best practices for attendance management, record-keeping, and policy implementation, helping to foster positive attendance cultures.

What we're looking for:

We seek an empathetic, resilient, and persistent individual with significant experience in an education welfare, pastoral, or similar support role within an educational setting. You'll have a thorough understanding of relevant education welfare legislation and best practices, coupled with excellent communication, interpersonal, and persuasion skills. The ability to work independently, manage a large caseload, and maintain accurate, confidential records is essential. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are required for travel between academies and home visits. Some home working may be permitted (negotiable).

If you're ready to embark on this new and exciting adventure and make a tangible difference in our pupils' lives, we encourage you to apply!
