Education Welfare Officer

to help us achieve this.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to improving student outcomes, supporting families, and promoting excellent attendance and engagement. You will be a key member of our pastoral team, working closely with another EWO, Attendance Officer, Pastoral Support Workers, SLT, and external agencies to ensure that every student is supported to thrive.

What You'll Do



In this role, you will be responsible for:

Monitoring and improving attendance across the Academy, identifying patterns and addressing issues early. Building strong relationships with students, parents, carers, and colleagues to provide support and guidance. Conducting home visits and liaising with external agencies to resolve attendance and engagement issues. Maintaining accurate records and generating reports to inform interventions and Academy policy. Supporting early intervention strategies, including mentoring, guidance, and referrals to specialist services. Promoting positive engagement by celebrating attendance successes and encouraging students to reach their full potential.
You will be at the heart of the Academy's efforts to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed.

We are seeking a candidate who is:

Empathetic and student-focused, with a genuine passion for improving young people's lives. Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. A confident communicator, able to engage effectively with students, families, staff, and external partners. Proactive and solution-oriented, capable of identifying issues and taking appropriate action. Committed to safeguarding, with a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality and child protection.
Experience working in a school or with young people is highly desirable, as is knowledge of attendance legislation, educational welfare, and strategies to promote engagement.

The working basis for this position is Term Time + 1 week inset (Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week). This is a school-based role and will include school-wide activities and meetings.

Westminster Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check amongst other pre-employment checks.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 32,215.00-34,211.00 per year
