Reporting to the site crafts-team supervisor, the Craftsperson will be responsible for fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of equipment across all areas of plant as well as carrying out routine maintenance activities. Working in an efficient and proactive manner, in accordance with RWE safety rules and procedures, you will require minimal Supervision. This is primarily a day working role but you must be prepared to provide cover outside normal working hours and to work shifts and weekends if required.
You should be aware that the role includes working in confined spaces, at heights and in
all weathers.
In addition to maintenance duties there will be a requirement to support other sections, for example operations teams, storekeeping duties and general site duties as allocated.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the Power Station is a safe workplace and contribute to its safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation.
Be responsible for the quality of your work, recording all activities via the PRISM system, and making recommendations for future work.
Immediately report all safety and environmental issues.
Maintain productivity in line with business needs while ensuring high-quality work and excellent housekeeping during and after tasks.
Carry out both routine and emergent maintenance tasks as directed by a chargehand or supervisor.
Understand station processes such as stores, spare parts booking, quality assurance, and maintenance management systems.
Take a proactive role in improving maintenance activities and supporting both maintenance and operations.
Collaborate with maintenance engineers and technicians to resolve recurring or unusual defects.
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrate a proactive, technically sound approach to safety, quality of work, and achieving company and team goals, with a positive, team-focused attitude.
Hold a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline and be apprentice-trained with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Show competence in using basic IT systems and possess excellent communication skills.
Exhibit a high degree of self-reliance, motivation, confidence, and flexibility in working hours.
Make effective decisions under pressure and build strong working relationships across all organizational levels.
Electrical specific:
Demonstrable experience on electrical equipment associated with heavy industry, including motors, switchgear (up to 6.6kV), actuators, battery and DC systems, hazardous area equipment, general electrical installations and fault investigation and diagnostics
Understanding of generators, excitation systems, and brush-gear including maintenance.
Understanding, knowledge and experience of DSEAR and ATEX regulations
Control and Instrumentation specific:
Able to demonstrate experience and technical knowledge of state of the
art control & instrumentation equipment including level, pressure, flow, transmitters,
actuators, chemical analysers etc.
HMI, PLC experience and knowledge desirable
Pneumatic and hydraulic control valve set up and fault diagnosis, positioners and servos.
Understanding, knowledge and experience of DSEAR and ATEX regulations, including the ability to train to COMPEX standards.
Able to work competently and reliably on safety instrumented systems, DCS systems and hazardous area equipment.
