Job Description

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for producing detailed electrical designs and documentation for refrigeration control panels and condensing units. The role is responsible for developing designs from concept through to production release, ensuring safety, compliance, and ease of manufacture. Working alongside mechanical, production, and R&D teams the role will be given increasing responsibility for projects as experience is developed.

Key Responsibilities

Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and supporting documentation using EPLAN Electric P8. Design control and power circuits for compressors, EC fans, and heaters. Select electrical components such as MCBs, contactors, overloads, and inverters . Carry out load calculations, cable sizing, and protection coordination in accordance with BS EN 60204-1 and BS 7671. Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), terminal layouts, and panel wiring schedules. Support production and test teams during panel build and commissioning. Participate in design reviews and contribute to improving standard designs and documentation. Ensure all designs meet CE/UKCA and customer-specific requirements.

Requirements

Essential

Minimum 3 years experience in electrical design for control panels, machinery, or automation systems. Experience using EPLAN Electric P8 or similar CAD software (AutoCAD, Electrical) Good understanding of motor control circuits, including DOL, star-delta, and inverter-driven systems. Strong practical knowledge of wiring practices, electrical protection, and panel layout. Ability to work from specifications and deliver accurate, well-documented designs. Collaborative attitude with good communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

HNC or degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent). Experience within refrigeration, HVAC, or process control industries. Knowledge of CO? or transcritical refrigeration systems. Familiarity with UL design standards and documentation. Exposure to PLC control systems, RDM, Carel, Siemens, etc.
