About The Employer



A UK-based technology company is launching a new renewable-energy programme focused on the design and management of hybrid solar and wind-powered microgrids. The systems will operate autonomously in off-grid or weak-grid regions, while being engineered for future national-grid integration. Operations will be directed from the UK, with early deployments planned across the Middle East and South Asia.

In conjunction with a specialist strategic partner, they are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to establish our engineering standards, technical procedures, and vendor frameworks from the ground up. This is a hands-on, founding role that combines design authority with project delivery, providing oversight from concept to commissioning.

The Role



As the project lead, you will take ownership of all technical aspects of distributed renewable-energy systems, from feasibility through commissioning. You'll collaborate with on-site engineering teams, lead electrical design, oversee compliance with UK and international standards.

What You'll Do



Lead technical development of 50-500 kW hybrid microgrid systems, integrating solar PV, small wind turbines, and BESS. Carry out site assessments, feasibility studies, and electrical load analyses to define system scope and sizing. Develop SLDs, cable schedules, protection coordination, and earthing/lightning protection schemes. Specify inverters, transformers, switchgear, metering, and control components; prepare full BoMs and vendor specifications. Oversee compliance with BS 7671, IEC 60364, and other relevant UK / international electrical standards. Ensure designs are aligned with grid codes and interconnection requirements (e.g., ENA G99 / G100 or equivalent). Integrate SCADA and IoT-based monitoring systems for real-time performance analytics, fault detection, and predictive maintenance. Supervise installation, FAT, commissioning, and handover, ensuring system reliability and safety compliance. Manage technical documentation including design calculations, risk assessments, and O&M manuals. Establish operational frameworks: maintenance schedules, spare-parts management, technician training plans, etc.

Must-Haves



MSc/PHD in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification). 3+ years of professional experience in electrical power systems, including grid-connected infrastructure and renewable-energy integration, with proven capability in load-flow and short-circuit studies, interconnection design, and preferably some experience in the commissioning of solar, wind, or hybrid LV/MV installations compliant with national grid codes and international standards. Strong understanding of UK and IEC electrical standards, including BS 7671, IEC 60364, and relevant BESS and wind-turbine standards (IEC 61400, IEC 62619). Familiarity with SCADA, IoT, or remote-monitoring platforms and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP, IEC 60870-5-104). Proficiency in electrical design and simulation tools (AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or similar). Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce technical documentation and mentor cross-disciplinary teams.

Nice-to-Haves



Experience with microgrid / off-grid rural electrification or community-power projects. Exposure to emerging markets or developing-region power systems. Skills in power-quality analysis, harmonics, and network optimisation. Basic scripting ability for automation or data analytics (Python, MATLAB). Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or health & safety (IOSH / NEBOSH).
