Lunaz is a passionate and growing business specializing in the highest quality restoration and electrification of classic automobiles.
We pride ourselves on our meticulous craftsmanship, attention to detail, engineering, and commitment to preserving automotive history for future generations.
We are offering a unique opportunity for a dedicated and highly practical On-Vehicle Electrical Engineer to join the team, specialising in the installation, validation, and system integration of low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) components for our classic car electrification projects.
This role demands mastery of wiring, diagnostics, and the ability to meticulously integrate modern LV architecture with restored, original vehicle components.
Key Focus: Installation, Integration, and On-Vehicle Modification
Practical LV System Installation:
Lead the physical installation and routing of all low-voltage electrical systems and wiring harnesses, ensuring adherence to professional automotive quality standards and efficient serviceability within the confines of the classic chassis.
Fabricate, terminate, and install custom LV harnesses for body systems, accessory controls, and safety systems, using best-practice methods (crimping, soldering, strain relief) to ensure long-term reliability.
Mount and connect all low-voltage electronic hardware, including DC/DC converters, Vehicle Control Units (VCU), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and sensors, ensuring thermal management and physical protection.
Build test rigs to create repeatable on-bench testing procedures for low-voltage systems.
Practical HV System Installation:
Lead the physical installation and routing of all high-voltage electrical components and wiring, ensuring adherence to professional automotive quality standards and efficient serviceability within the confines of the classic chassis.
Terminate, and install HV wiring, using best-practice methods (crimping and strain relief) to ensure long-term reliability.
Mount and connect all high-voltage hardware.
Classic System Interfacing & Modification:
Execute the complex on-vehicle modification necessary to interface modern electronic controllers with the classic car's original equipment, for example, gauges, dashboard lights, switches, and starter/ignition circuits.
Troubleshoot and revive original wiring and components to ensure they function flawlessly within the new electric architecture, making necessary repairs or selective replacements using period-appropriate techniques where possible.
Advanced Diagnostics and Fault-Finding
:
This role includes a critical focus on quality assurance and resolution of electrical faults:
System Validation:
Conduct end-to-end electrical system validation and functional checks on all installed hardware and harnesses before and after vehicle power-up.
Expert Troubleshooting:
Serve as the specialist for diagnosing and rectifying complex, intermittent electrical faults on finished vehicles.
Root Cause Analysis:
Perform systematic root cause analysis on component or system failures and implement robust, permanent engineering fixes directly on the vehicle.
Documentation and Quality Control:
Maintain precise, as-built documentation of all harness routing, component locations, and on-vehicle modifications for final quality assurance and future servicing.
Collaborate closely with mechanical and fabrication teams to ensure physical mounting and wiring installations are coordinated and structurally sound.
Qualifications
Education:
Technical Certification, Apprenticeship, or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a closely related field.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in electrical installation, wiring, and product-level diagnostics, ideally in a vehicle customization, motorsport, or prototyping environment.
Mastery of low-voltage automotive electrical systems and power distribution.
Experience with high-voltage automotive electrical systems and power distribution.
Practical experience with CAN bus diagnostics, system troubleshooting, and data acquisition.
Skills:
Proficiency in professional wiring harness construction, termination, and repair.
Ability to read, interpret, and rapidly modify complex wiring diagrams and schematics.
Meticulous attention to detail and a respect for the integrity of classic cars.
Benefits:
Competitive package commensurate with experience.
Opportunities for professional development and training.
