Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, the Electrical Technician will work as part of a small maintenance team responsible for ensuring the plant & auxiliary equipment is maintained to a high safe operating condition, and the site is compliant to electrical regulations.
They will be accountable for carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities to all electrical and instrumentation equipment ensuring safe and reliable performance of the assets which includes material storage, conveying, mixing, drying and packing equipment. The key aspect of this role is to optimize plant performance whilst complying with the requirements of BS7671 Electrical Regulations
The plant operates on a 24-hour basis and therefore the successful candidate will be required to provide out-of-hours electrical breakdown cover as required by the business.
You must be able to demonstrate experience and a good track record for safety, health and environmental awareness. You will be required to challenge others to work safely and develop a thorough knowledge of site-specific Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
Accountabilities
Attendance in Daily Team Briefs and department meetings.
Compliance with company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality policies. Report near hits, unsafe acts/conditions and workplace hazards.
Work in a safe manner, ensuring the Health & Safety of yourself and others.
Responsibility for the execution of the electrical preventative maintenance program.
Advise on the extent of repairs, replacement, and maintenance issues.
Advise on foreseeable maintenance requirements and essential spares requirements.
Plan, carry out and keep records of electrical testing and maintenance.
Contribute to RCA failure analysis to ensure a full understanding of equipment downtime.
Active involvement in the commissioning of any new plant or equipment.
Key Deliverables
Understanding of current issues and information.
Carry out economic and efficient repairs of electrical installations and machinery along with maintaining all safety devices / controls to full working order.
Early fault diagnosis leading to a timely planned rectification and therefore avoiding breakdowns.
Excellent understanding of equipment condition and operational risks.
Ensure all electrical critical spares are correct and available as required.
Ensure electrical testing is fully compliant.
Ensure a full understanding of equipment downtime and actions to prevent a recurrence.
Have a full understanding of the electrical requirements (maintenance / critical spares) of newly commissioned equipment.

Qualifications
Time served Apprenticeship.
NC or equivalent level of education in Electrical Engineering. (essential)
HNC or equivalent level of education in Electrical Engineering. (advantageous)
BS 7671 -18th Edition wiring regulations.
C&G 2391 inspection and testing - desirable
PLC and Variable speed drives experience - desirable
Experience
Time served electrical apprenticeship
Experience working in an aggregates or chemical processing industry
Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of plant operations and controls
Knowledge of site-specific Safety, Health and Environmental procedures
Ability to assess safety/health risks and implement corrective measures
Working knowledge of plant and machinery and associated control systems
Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems
Good knowledge of instrumentation including calibration techniques
Fault finding ability on highly automated plant including PLC's VSD's and process instrumentation
Good cost awareness leading to economical repairs of equipment
Ability to read and understand electrical drawings
Report writing
Working knowledge of Microsoft office systems eg word, excel etc.
Good awareness and understanding of energy isolation and experience in the application and use of permit to work.
