Salary:
The starting salary is 68,295 which includes allowances totalling 2,928.
The salary is broken down as 65,367 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 70,012 plus, a location allowance of 1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Electronics Senior Technologist, with significant hands-on electronics design and technical leadership experience, to join an exciting engineering and science team using state of the art equipment within a multi discipline environment to develop bespoke electronics solutions, to make London safer.
As an Electronics Senior Technologist, you will be part of the Electronics System Development (ESD) team who develop niche electronic solutions to unique business issues. You will provide day to day technical oversight, mentoring, and guidance to the electronics development team and have the ability to identify design problems early, steering the team to effectively design solutions. You will also act as the technical design authority for all electronic designs to ensure design solutions are robust and fit for purpose to meet operational requirements. This will involve running formal electronic design reviews to provide the necessary design oversight to projects. Another important aspect of this role will be to provide the strategic direction to enable the electronics team to successfully develop solutions with the very latest electronics technology. This will involve the role holder continually researching the very best modern electronic components, packages and techniques and conducting small exercises to prove their use.

What you will be doing
Working with the electronics section manager and development managers, you will be providing the technical leadership to the electronics team to enable them deliver robust solutions to meet these requirements against operational deadlines. A typical day may include engaging with highly experienced electronic engineers in your team providing them with oversight, guidance and technical direction, engaging MPS operational officers to understand their requirements and conducting electronic design reviews.
As the Electronics Senior Technologist, you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders, some of the UK's top suppliers, academics and highly experienced electronic engineers in your team, so you will need the ability to provide the necessary technical leadership and oversight so the team can maintain momentum on projects so that they can be delivered robustly to meet operational deadlines. You will have already demonstrated exceptional technical leadership talent in your career.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Qualifications
Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or an Engineering related discipline
OR
A post graduate qualification:-MEng or PhD in an electronic engineering discipline
Desirable Qualifications
PhD in an RF engineering discipline
Chartered Engineer
We anticipate the successful applicant should be able to demonstrate the following experience either in their CV or Personal Statement
You must have experience in:
At least 12 years Electronics Design experience
Technical Leadership of an Electronic Systems Development team or similar who have a diverse range of skills including electronics, RF, embedded, digital and mechanical design skills.
Providing day to day technical oversight, mentoring and guidance to an Electronic Systems Development team
And significant experience in at least 3 of the following:
All aspects of RF design and analysis.
FPGA design including VHDL, Simulation and Hardware design.
Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design.
The miniaturisation and design for production of electronic solutions.
Design of real-time embedded systems, including detailed hardware and software design using 'C'.
Audio and Communications design
Mechanical design and 3D modelling and techniques.
We'd like you to have experience in some of the following areas:
Identifying design problems early and ability to design robust solutions
Technical leadership of a team of engineers from a user requirement through initial design and prototyping, to production runs of reliable, repeatable solutions
Acting as the technical design authority for all electronic designs
Providing the strategic direction to enable an electronics team to successfully develop solutions with the very latest electronics technology
Excellent communication skills
Running technical project meetings to effectively steer an electronics development team to deliver successful solutions on-time.
Conducting formal electronics design reviews and using own skills and experience to recognise design flaws and provide direction to team for corrective action
Liaison with external suppliers, manufacturers and academia, and providing the technical leadership to steer them to deliver solutions.
Development of an electronics team to ensure knowledge and skills are current, an all-around technical background will be required to achieve this
