Job Description

Abelon Systems are an Edinburgh based Embedded Systems Design Consultancy and we are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic embedded firmware developer to join our team.

We are seeking a talented Firmware Engineer or Senior Firmware Engineer to join our embedded design consultancy in a dynamic hybrid role that blends office-based teamwork with the flexibility of remote working.

In this position, you'll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of sectors and technologies, from consumer products to industrial systems, tackling unique technical challenges and shaping innovative solutions.

As part of a consultancy environment, you'll also collaborate directly with clients--helping to define requirements, solve complex problems, and deliver high-quality embedded designs that make a real impact.

The position will cover the entire embedded software design and test life-cycle, involving the design and implementation of software for embedded devices and systems, from requirements gathering through to production and commercial deployment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of industry sectors as our client and project list is wide and varied.

Qualifications preferred:



Good Honours and/or post graduate qualification in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Physics or Mathematics with relevant Software Engineering component.

Skills/Experience required:



It is likely that the successful candidate will have acquired sufficient experience for the role through having already spent at least 4-8 years in industry.

Candidates should also be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a lively commercial environment and possess good communication, interpersonal and team working skills. Equally important is self-motivation and a "can do" attitude. The successful candidate will be able to work on their own or within a team and be capable of using their own initiative to seek creative solutions to problems.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent C/C++ programming skills and show proven ability and hands-on experience in at least two or more of the following areas.

Real time embedded systems Device driver development Wireless communications and networking systems, particularly Bluetooth ARM processors
For a Senior Firmware Engineer role you should have also good supervisory skills and technical team leading experience

Applicants should either hold a UK passport, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship is not available for this post.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 35,000.00-50,000.00 per year
