PMUK's Home Appliance Division is looking for an experienced Embedded Systems Team Leader to join and lead the R&D Embedded Systems team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians in the day-to-day design and evaluation of embedded systems, firmware, and software components associated with kitchen appliances. The position requires comprehensive technical knowledge and leadership for the team members, including allocation of tasks, supervision, and mentoring.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING




Development Process:

Oversee the design, development, and evaluation of the embedded systems, firmware, and software components, ensuring compliance with internal quality, costs, and schedule requirements as well as customer requirements by allocating appropriate team resources.

Task Allocation:

Disseminate information for use by team members, then allocate, supervise, mentor, and support them with their tasks as required. Creation and maintenance of project plans and tasks lists.

Technical Expertise:

Use skills and knowledge to resolve design issues and coordinate development within areas of expertise with internal contacts, external suppliers, customers, and other Panasonic organisations.

Team Management:

Check and authorise holidays, leave of absence, return to work forms, etc. for team members. Run bi-yearly performance reviews with team members and create training plans. Create and maintain appropriate objectives for team members. Manage any employee relations related issues. Monitor and assure H&S and 5S activities. Arrange and co-ordinate all maintenance and calibration of office and laboratory equipment in use by the team.

Document Control:

Ensure relevant project based technical documents (specifications, architecture, requirements, system models) are completed in line with the required processes and are produced on schedule. Arrange, prepare, and maintain control documentation; including test reports, evaluation plans, and engineering changes.

Documentation Quality:

Check all associated drawings, specifications, and technical documents meet the quality criteria.

R&D:

Consider new technology to improve and implement new R&D systems and processes, ensuring efficient product development and future improvement to product development. Identify, propose, and help implement improvements to documentation, workflows, and processes.

Meetings:

Chair weekly team meetings and prepare weekly reports. Maintain Team Leaders' issues logs and attend weekly Team Leaders meetings. Provide necessary information for technical and strategic meetings and attend and contribute to the relevant development meetings, both internal and external.

Business Planning:

Support the Executive Engineer / R&D Management with Business Plan objective setting, resource planning, and team budget setting and monitoring. Carry out BP resource allocation and training requirements throughout the year at appropriate intervals. Raise cap-ex forms and write justifications for agreed capital equipment.

Review Designs:

Critique and evaluate designs and proposals, participate in peer reviews and meetings with engineers and other departments. Fully assess historic problems and endeavour to eradicate them from future designs. Lead and support engineers in this activity.

Project Support:

Ensure cost, scope, and schedule estimates for projects and embedded systems development work are assessed and made available, and that the technical issues and associated risks are managed and communicated to stakeholders.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR




Essential Requirements

Degree level qualification in an Engineering or business-based discipline plus five years of relevant industry experience, or at least ten years of relevant industry experience in a similar role. Experience in managing teams. Experience developing embedded systems and best practice processes. Highly skilled in project management. Quality mindset: attention to detail and willing to challenge rationale.

Desirable Requirements

Ideally have more than five years of experience working within a design environment and be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering design, evaluation, and product development processes. Should have extensive experience in a design-led embedded systems / software engineering role, preferably in a high-tech company. Highly experienced in embedded system design, requirements, coding/programming, verification, and validation (software/firmware). Highly experienced in product design/development. Highly experienced in technical documentation and modelling - schematics, datasheets, UML/SysML modelling, etc. (e.g., Enterprise Architect). Good understanding of manufacturing and industrial processes for embedded systems related components (microcontrollers, such as ARM-based e.g., STM32). Highly experienced in product and component evaluation (embedded systems). Knowledge of project management, development processes, inc. version control (SVN). Knowledge of agile project management tools (Jira) and model-based design. High-level problem-solving skills with the ability to efficiently resolve technical issues. Experience with report writing, documentation, unit testing, integration testing, evaluation of systems and components, and interpretation of test results. High Level CAD and simulation skills (preferably Matlab/Simulink and the use of various IDEs and development environments such as STMCube). High level knowledge of MS Office software required (MS Project, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Able to use SharePoint for filing documents. Able to disseminate information for use by team members, then allocate, supervise, mentor, and support them with their tasks if required. Presentation skills. Self-motivated. Knowledge of financial budgeting.

07:45 - 16:30 Monday - Thursday, 07:45 - 13:30 Friday.
