St Giles Trust is a Charity helping people facing severe disadvantage to find jobs, homes, and the right support they need. We help them to become positive contributors to local communities and wider society. We passionately believe everybody is capable of changing their lives. Our mission is we empower people to overcome injustices for themselves, their families and their local communities - we achieve this through offering support from someone who has been there. Our peer-led services form the backbone of our work.

A post has become vacant in our award winning, youth violence service at Bedford Hospital to support vulnerable victims of violence aged 12 to 25-year-olds. You will have a base in the Emergency Department, providing support for those young people admitted to the hospital right through to their discharge back into the community working closely with clinicians and hospital staff to receive referrals and ensure that young people are discharged safely back into the community, ensuring they have access to appropriate longer term support. You will be expected to work a shift pattern that includes at least one day at the weekend.

You will have experience of working with 'high risk,' vulnerable young people, working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and have a flexible, empathetic approach to your work. You will focus on engagement with patients in a stable setting, including "cold" visits to work with inpatients on the ward; there would also be flexibility to work with patients and families on admission following incidents of serious violence. This would include a confidential and welcoming space within A&E/hospital. There will also be a significant element of work in the community, supporting young people post discharge to engage with onward services.

The post holder will be subject to a check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and will also need to apply for an NHS honorary contract. Failure to gain a DBS check or an honorary contract could result in withdrawal of any job offer.

You will be part of a comprehensive service delivering across St Giles that is mindful of, and promotes the organisation's Vision, Mission, Values and strategic aims.

We actively encourage people with personal experience of the criminal justice system or lived experience of the issues facing this client group to apply for this role.
