WHAT TO EXPECT

The team\'s function is to support Engineering Operations in their objective of achieving \'timely, quality\' product releases through supporting the overall Product \'cycle plan\'.

In doing so, the team and all individuals within it, are required to be responsive to their customer needs and requirements.

In this role you will work within the Emissions Facilities supporting the development of the next generation of JLR products be it conventional Combustion Engines or new Technology such as Battery powered with Electric Drive Units and Control systems or a mixture of both in Hybrid systems. You will work as an individual and as part of a team to keep the facility and equipment within the facility compliant for Certification and Development testing across all Product Development sites.

This Engineer role will operate across the facility conducting activities to ensure that the team provide the capability to accurate measure vehicle/engine emissions and deliver a high-quality facility to fulfil customer testing requirements. The core responsibility of the role will be planning, coordinating, performing scheduled maintenance, servicing and fault rectification activities across the facility. They will be responsible for providing and maintaining processes and ensuring that productive capability is maintained. The main activities need strong technical capability and require critical and analytical reasoning, robust planning, co-ordination and control of own workload. As an engineer you will be supporting a wide range of engineering customers, skilled test facility operators, suppliers, external agencies and organisations in order to provide continuity of testing and assurance that our facility and output meet the requirements of established international standards for laboratory accreditation. The engineer will coordinate the workflow of multiple technicians working on the shift to complete the required workload and will be expected to work through technical, logistical and process related issues.

WHAT YOU\'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Diagnose Equipment issues, own the issue and use available resources resolve.
  • The raising of eTrackers, tracking and managing them through to closure, to minimise facility downtime.
  • Analysis of test data and evaluation of findings to provide solutions and move test activity forward.
  • Data driven diagnosis using software tools and rectification of issues, engagement of support teams to facilitate resolution.
  • Coordinate a small team of technicians and hourly paid to complete test equipment maintenance and fault repair
  • Perform routine maintenance on test equipment during scheduled down time .
  • P erform periodic calibration on test equipment.
  • Function test and service of test equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance of test equipment.
  • Adhere to quality standards to ensure all equipment meets required standards.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and provide a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Create, review and improve Single point lessons and procedures for others to follow.
  • Create, review and update Risk Assessments and COSHH Assessments for the team.
  • Raise Toxicology requests for operational gases and chemicals used throughout the department.
  • Lead and work in teams across functions to deliver testing needs throughout the facility.
  • Administer Gas Management activities across the facilities, coordinating with the gas supplier to ensure seamless supply of Operational Gases and Liquid Nitrogen to the facility.
  • Maintain database of test equipment, tracking calibration and maintenance schedules to ensure the facility maintains compliance.
  • Issue test equipment and parts.
  • Work shifts as required to meet project needs .
  • May be required to travel to and work at other sites as required.
  • Identify working practices that can be modified/improved to operate safer and more efficiently.
WHAT YOU\'LL NEED

Essential :
  • Level 4 qualification in Science, Engineering or Mathematical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing workloads and organising small teams.
  • Emissions, Mechanical and Electrical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience with physical maintenance activities.
  • Excellent computer skills including Data Analysis through software tools.
  • Structured and Logical approach to Problem Solving.
  • Presentation and Communication skills including ability to create schedules, present information to others and organise concurrent activities.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety including COSHH, PUWER, Risk Assessments and other related regulations.
  • Commitment, flexibility, self-motivation, robust clear communication.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, process and SPL documents.
