The Role
As an Emotional Wellbeing Teaching Assistant, you will:
Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils needing emotional regulation support
Help children feel safe, secure, and valued in the classroom
Encourage engagement through calm, consistent routines
Support children in building self-confidence and positive peer relationships
Work under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs to implement wellbeing strategies
Assist with behaviour support, de-escalation techniques, and emotional check-ins
Be a key part of creating a nurturing environment where pupils can flourish
Bring a steady, grounded presence that pupils can rely on
Contribute to a collaborative and caring school community as an Emotional Wellbeing Teaching Assistant
The Ideal Person
This Emotional Wellbeing Teaching Assistant role is suited to someone who:
Is patient, kind, and emotionally aware
Has experience supporting children or young people in education, care, youth work, or social services
Understands the challenges faced by pupils with social, emotional or mental health (SEMH) needs
Can use empathy and active listening to build trust and connection
Is confident working with children who may display challenging behaviour
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
Background in education, care, or youth support
Familiarity with SEMH and SEND approaches
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Qualifications in health and social care, childcare, or a related field
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced classroom environment

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
