Employer Liaison Adviser - West Midlands
When you see the words "Professional Healthcare Regulation" do you think of support, fairness and putting patients interests first? Do you want a role where no two days are the same? If so you may be interested in reading on.
We work with doctors, physician associates, anaesthesia associates, patients, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs and AAs, and those who train them need to meet, and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors may be at risk, we can investigate and take action if needed.
Our team of Employer Liaison Advisers work remotely and meet with healthcare organisations across the NHS and independent sectors to ensure that senior medical leaders are properly supported in all aspects of medical regulation, particularly in relation to our fitness to practise work and the revalidation of doctors. You will be an important representative for the GMC, maintaining strong and resilient relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders, medical directors/responsible officers and their teams in their regions at a time of significant change, both within the GMC and, importantly, within the health sector as a whole.
This is a key role for the GMC and will require outstanding relationship management skills, together with an ability to grasp the technical nature of our work; an important part of the role being the ability to explain this cogently and accurately. You will be expected to be able to discuss and advise on sensitive and complex issues with senior medical leaders and must be comfortable with handling the detail of individual cases in relation to a registrant's fitness to practise and revalidation recommendations. You do not have to be a registrant or an expert in our guidance or processes, although that would be an advantage. We will provide full training for the role.
This is an opportunity to undertake challenging and rewarding work as part of a well-supported and high performing senior team. If you have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to get to grips with the detail of our regulatory framework, we welcome your application.
You must be able to work independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The role involves regular travel around your region and to GMC offices in Manchester and London. Some overnight stays will be expected. A significant amount of the first three to four months in post will be an induction period where we will provide comprehensive training for the role and this will be provided both in our offices and virtually.
To be eligible to apply for this role, an applicant must live in or within five miles of the region they are applying for. Please contact us at if you would like to discuss whether you are eligible before submitting an application.
