Job Outline:
WorkWell is an early-intervention work and health service providing holistic support to help people overcome health-related barriers to employment. The service brings together local health provision, community organisations, and employment support to help people remain in or return to good work.
As a WorkWell Work & Health Coach, you will combine specialist employment coaching with holistic health and wellbeing support. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including NHS clinicians and social prescribing practitioners, while also drawing on Better Pathways' expertise in employability and skills.
The role involves:
Work & Health Coaching
- supporting individuals to address health-related barriers to work and access holistic support.
Employment Coaching
- helping participants into sustainable work through job search, CVs, applications, interviews, and employer engagement
Delivery will take place to the communities of East Birmingham and North Solihull and providing access and navigation to services that support people to live happy and healthy lives.
All Work & Health Coaches will have access to a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) that sits within the NHS that support individuals to access their personal budget and refer for specific treatment or support and the MDT will operate within the biopsychosocial model and all work and health coaches will also be upskilled in the biopsychosocial model to support their approach to the project.
The MDT will be based in a range of organisations including Better Pathways but led by the NHS. It will consist of clinicians and practitioners with expertise in mental health, muscular skeletal conditions, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social prescribing and employment support. Members of the MDT will be identified from across the local system with a budget allowance in place to fund their costs.
This post will cover up to two areas.
Lot 1 DRC - Aligned to Shard End & Kitts Green and Birmingham East Central Primary Care Networks (3 FTE work and health coaches)
Lot 3 Better Pathways - Aligned to Small Heath and Bordesley East Primary Care Networks (2 FTE) work and health coaches)
Key Tasks:
The role of the Work & Health Coach is:
Participant Support:
Manage a caseload of participants, providing 1:1 tailored coaching to improve health, wellbeing, and employability.
Develop and monitor Work Well action plans with clear health and employment outcomes.
Support clients to access their personal budget allowance (up to 500) to address barriers.
Provide guidance on benefits, travel-to-work, and managing health at work, signposting where appropriate.
Help participants develop confidence, resilience, and motivation through structured interventions and wellbeing activities.
Help facilitate discussions with employers for participants returning to work from sick leave inclusive of reasonable adjustments when required.
Employment Coaching:
Assist with CVs, job applications, cover letters, and interview preparation.
Deliver workshops and training (e.g., job search, applications, interview skills, employability).
Carry out tailored job searches with participants, supporting them to use digital job boards and employer sites.
Identify skills gaps and support access to training, volunteering, and work placements.
Provide post-employment support to help participants sustain work.
Work with employers to source vacancies, promote inclusive recruitment practices, and advise on reasonable adjustments/retention.
Partnership & MDT Working:
Utilise the NHS-led Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), to support your caseload of participants.
Build links with local employers, training providers, and support agencies to create clear progression routes.
Contribute to the delivery of employability workshops and drop-in sessions
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a joined-up service across health, employment, and community sectors.
Administration & Reporting:
Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and outcome monitoring systems.
Capture and report progress against KPIs and funder requirements, including employment, health, and wellbeing outcomes.
Contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement of the WorkWell pilot.
Support marketing and outreach activities (events, social media, recruitment fairs) to raise awareness and maximise referrals.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Experience supporting adults with health conditions, disabilities, or complex barriers into employment.
Experience delivering group employability sessions.
Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with sensitivity and motivational ability.
Experience delivering job search, CV, and interview support.
Knowledge of local labour market, training providers, and employer engagement.
Good understanding of welfare benefits and employment-related calculations.
IAG L3 (or willingness to work towards).
IT proficiency (MS Office, CRM systems, digital job platforms, social media).
Strong organisational and case management skills, with ability to meet targets.

Flexibility to travel across Birmingham & Solihull.
