Overview
Better Pathways is seeking a dedicated and proactive
Employment Advisor & Digital Skills Trainer
to support unemployed and economically inactive residents of East Birmingham.
This is a full-time role shared across two projects:
One project is funded until
March 2026
.
The second project is funded until
July 2026
.
There may be opportunities for extension if funding allows.
Hours split:
Digital Skills Officer: 16 hours per week
Employment Advisor: 21 hours per week
Delivery includes one-to-one coaching and group workshops, held both at Better Pathways and in community venues such as Job Centres, community hubs, and job fairs. The role focuses on developing participants' employability, digital capability, and confidence to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Main ResponsibilitiesEmployability Support
Deliver one-to-one and group employability coaching (CV writing, job applications, interview preparation, workplace behaviours, and confidence building).
Facilitate employability workshops on transferable skills, workplace readiness, and personal development.
Build and maintain relationships with employers to identify opportunities and create sustainable employment pathways.
Digital Skills Training
Deliver basic digital skills workshops in-house and in community venues (IT basics, email, online safety, NHS/travel apps, job searching platforms, online banking, and budgeting).
Support participants to progress into further learning and accredited training opportunities.
Plan and deliver varied digital skills sessions using approved planning tools such as schemes of work, session plans, individual learning plans, and practitioner reviews.
Outreach and Referrals
Undertake outreach at Job Centres, job fairs, and community organisations to generate referrals.
Build and maintain partnerships with referral agencies, colleges, and local organisations across East Birmingham and North Solihull.
Engage with priority communities, particularly individuals with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
Action Planning, IAG, and Case Management
Complete Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) assessments with new participants to identify barriers, needs, and aspirations.
Develop and review personalised action plans with SMART goals.
Manage a caseload, recording all activity accurately on CRM systems.
Provide monthly monitoring information and contribute to project reports.

Person Specification Qualifications
Level 3 NVQ in Information, Advice and Guidance (essential).
Relevant training qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
Experience
Proven track record in community engagement and development.
Experience planning and delivering sessions and workshops to adult learners.
Experience of partnership working.
Proven ability to source employment and training opportunities.
Experience completing needs assessments and project documentation.
Experience delivering to disabled people and those with long-term health conditions (desirable).
Knowledge
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
Hands-on problem-solving skills.
Up-to-date knowledge of digital skills and online platforms.
Strong analytical and reporting abilities.
Proactive, self-motivated, and a team player.
Experience in customer service (desirable).
Driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable).
Understanding of equal opportunities and diversity practice.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and data management systems.
Familiarity with East Birmingham and Solihull communities (desirable).
