Employment Law Solicitor Senior Manager

Manchester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About PwC Legal Services

PwC UK is an independent member of the PwC international network of firms. Our UK Legal practice comprises 29 partners/directors and over 350 legal fee-earners, delivering integrated, project-based and general counsel support to leading organisations across sectors. With access to legal expertise in over 85 countries, we bring multi-jurisdictional capability, technology-enabled delivery and deep sector insight to help clients navigate complex workforce, regulatory and transactional issues.

The Team and Context

Our Employment Legal team sits within Workforce, REP (Reward, Employment & Pensions), one of six Business Units in PwC's Tax Line of Service. We partner closely with colleagues across Tax, Deals and Consulting to deliver multi-disciplinary solutions. The team advises on the full spectrum of employment law, with particular depth in workforce and pay compliance, workforce change and restructuring, complex ER advisory, and cross-border employment projects. We are growing and investing in senior talent to help shape the next phase of our practice.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Manager, you will be a senior, client-facing employment lawyer responsible for leading complex matters, supervising and developing junior team members, and driving practice growth. You will combine strong technical excellence with commercial judgement, project leadership and a collaborative approach to cross-disciplinary delivery. This is an opportunity to advise high-profile clients on strategically significant matters in a dynamic, non-traditional legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment work, including high-value and complex mandates. In particular, you will:

Act as a key point of contact for major clients, building long-term relationships and delivering responsive, pragmatic advice grounded in business realities. Lead workforce change projects, including restructuring and redundancy programmes, TUPE transfers, changes to terms and conditions, and intra-group workforce moves, often across multiple jurisdictions. Advise on workforce and pay compliance, including national minimum wage risk reviews and remediation, holiday pay, employment status assessments, equal pay and pay gap reporting, and associated regulatory interactions. Advise on complex and high profile non-financial misconduct investigations. Provide strategic ER advisory support, investigations guidance and risk management advice, partnering with HR, Reward, Compliance and senior leadership stakeholders. Support transactions by running the employment workstream on domestic and cross-border deals, collaborating closely with our Tax, Deals and Workforce colleagues. Design and deliver client training, thought leadership and horizon scanning on employment law developments and workforce regulatory change. Lead pitches and proposals, contribute to go-to-market campaigns, and identify and convert new opportunities, both within PwC and externally. Supervise and mentor junior lawyers, providing structured feedback, quality control and technical development, while role-modelling inclusive leadership. Manage matters profitably and efficiently, with disciplined scoping, budgeting, resourcing and risk management, and effective use of technology-enabled delivery. Coordinate multi-jurisdictional projects, leveraging our international network to deliver consistent, timely and compliant outcomes.

Skills and Experience

We are seeking a technically excellent, commercially minded employment lawyer with a track record of delivering complex work and leading teams. The ideal candidate will have:

Qualified solicitor status in England & Wales (or equivalent employment law jurisdiction) with 6+ years' PQE gained in a reputable employment practice. Deep knowledge of UK employment law and demonstrable experience across several of the following: redundancy and reorganisations; TUPE; changing terms and conditions; national minimum wage; holiday pay; employment status; equal pay and gender pay reporting; investigations and ER advisory; managing litigation; and cross-border projects. Experience leading the employment workstream on transactions and large-scale change programmes, including project management of multi-jurisdictional matters. Proven client relationship skills, including acting as day-to-day lead for significant clients and providing clear, outcome-focused advice. Strong supervision experience, with the ability to upskill and develop junior team members and oversee high-quality work product. Evidence of business development capability, including cross-selling, networking, pitching and thought leadership. Excellent communication, drafting and presentation skills, with the confidence to train clients and internal teams. Strong matter management discipline, including scoping, budgeting, profitability and risk management. A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for working within a multi-disciplinary, technology-enabled environment.

What You'll Work On

You will engage in technically challenging, strategically significant projects for high-profile clients, avoiding repetitive cycles of identical deals. You will collaborate closely with non-lawyers across PwC, gaining a deep understanding of business drivers and bringing integrated solutions to clients. Opportunities may include secondments to major clients, international engagements and leadership of flagship, firmwide initiatives.

What You'll Receive

We recognise and reward our people fairly and support them to thrive at every stage of their career. Our benefits include empowered flexibility with a hybrid working model across office, home and client sites, private medical cover with 24/7 virtual GP access, designated volunteering days per year, and a comprehensive suite of wellbeing, financial and family support benefits.

How to Apply

If you are a driven, intellectually curious employment lawyer who enjoys solving complex problems in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary setting, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a brief cover note outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role.
