We're Swinburne Maddison, a modern law firm rooted in traditional values like trust, care, collaboration, and agility. These principles have guided us for over 25 years, and they remain at our core. As an award-winning firm, we proudly build on our rich heritage while adapting to the evolving needs of our clients. We're committed to doing things the right way, putting people first and delivering exceptional service.

Life at Swinburne Maddison is all about growth, opportunity, and being surrounded by great people. We believe in pushing boundaries, fostering talent, and creating an environment where people thrive. In 2026, we were named Law Firm of the Year at the Northern Law Awards, with four teams ranked Tier One in The Legal 500 and 22 lawyers individually recognised.

The Swinburne Maddison employment law team is known for delivering clear, strategic advice that empowers clients to navigate complex workplace issues. We're looking for an Employment Lawyer to join this well-respected team and contribute to our continued growth.

Whether acting for individuals facing challenging employment situations or advising businesses on compliance, disputes, and workforce strategy, we provide practical, commercially minded advice tailored to each client's needs.

The role

We are seeking a talented and driven Employment Lawyer to join our dynamic team and deliver expert legal advice across a wide spectrum of employment matters. You'll be working alongside lawyers with a brilliant track record of success, known for their technical excellence and commitment to outstanding client service.

This is a varied and stimulating role where you'll be involved in:

Advising both employers and employees on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, from day-to-day HR queries to complex disputes. Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, and documentation to ensure legal compliance and commercial clarity. Providing proactive, ongoing support to clients through our smart HR retainer service, helping them manage risk and make confident decisions. Guiding clients through sensitive processes including disciplinaries, grievances, redundancies, and Employment Tribunal claims. Supporting the employment aspects of corporate transactions, including TUPE and restructuring (experience in corporate support is desirable but not essential). Collaborating with senior lawyers and partners on high-level advisory work, including legal research and strategic input. Building your reputation for excellent client service, taking ownership of matters and strengthening long-term relationships. Contributing to business development initiatives and helping grow our employment law offering. Maintaining your professional development through regular training and CPD activities.
