To work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the endocrine specialist area.
To be able to manage and be responsible for a case load of endocrine patients.
To ensure patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
Willingness to learn and develop skills and knowledge to effectively cross-cover all endocrine patient groups including Thyroid, Pituitary and Adrenal patients.
Development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current clinical research studies.
To work within the cohesive multidisciplinary management with other team endocrine CNS's within specific endocrine cancer and surgical patients who are undergoing neurosurgery for endocrine problems.
To assess patients with pituitary disease for GH replacements and autonomously run nurse led clinics including Emergency Hydrocortisone and GH clinics
To be part and work autonomously in endocrine nurse led clinics.
To link with other healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in the community.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Clinical practice:
To support patients with specialist needs within in the endocrine service.
To support and c o-ordination Adrenal Vein Sampling.
Thyroid cancer pathway management including radio-iodine treatment,
To provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other health care professionals following diagnosis and through treatment.
Running of nurse-led clinics such as Hydrocortisone Replacement Clinics, Breaking Bad News, eHNA clinics, pituitary pre-assessment clinics.
To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients and their families.
2. Education and Research:
To help produce and provide all patients with relevant and accessible written information regarding their treatment in accordance with Trust standards.
To supervise and participate in the delivering of programmes of education and training according to the identified needs of the patients and staff involved with patient care. .
3. Management:
To liaise effectively with all other disciplines within the Trust.

Manage and deliver nurse led clinics providing expert care to patients with endocrine complications
to improve day-to-day quality of life and minimise risk of future complications
Managing and assessing patients for Hormone replacement including GH replacements running
nurse led clinics.
To review endocrine patients within the Programmed Investigation Unit
Ordering diagnostic tests.
Making to and receiving referrals from other health care providers.
Admitting and discharging patients with specified conditions within agreed protocols.
To attend and manage the endocrine outpatient clinics, ensuring nurse consultation with newly
diagnosed patients.
To work with the MDT to develop, implement and evaluate integrated care pathways.
To be actively involved with the inpatient holistic care, liaising with the ward staff and PIU staff to
ensure high quality nursing care are provided and conduct teaching sessions on the wards-Unit.
To regularly review those clinical notes of patients requiring imminent admission, ensuring all
assessments, diagnostic investigations and test results are up to date and in place to ensure a smooth
admission.
To participate in relevant for a at Directorate, Trust, Cancer Network and National, International level
to represent the services.
