We are looking for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join our successful, highly respected and rapidly growing Energy and Resource Management (ERM) team. The team is at the cutting edge of delivering projects within the ERM sectors that are currently undergoing a once in a generation transformation as we move towards a greener and more sustainable environment.
The ERM team consists of four market leading partners , , and . All four Partners are ranked in the legal directories, such as Legal 500, for their expertise in .
Over the last 3 years, the ERM team has rapidly grown and is now made up of 12 lawyers advising on a number of market leading deals. We are proud to have been a finalist in the Legal Advisor of the Year category at the for the eighth year in a row.
Team members have also been recognised in the for their commitment to environmental sustainability, with one of only 40 individuals in the UK - and 100 worldwide - to be named as a Legal 500 Green Ambassador.
The ERM team advises on a broad range of clients on high profile ERM projects. This includes project sponsors/developers (e.g. Viridor, Boom Power, Equans), Government departments (e.g. DESNZ, Ofgem, DEFRA) and a number of public sector organisations (e.g. Birmingham City Council) on ERM projects, including:

  • Energy from Waste and Waste PFI/PPP

About the role
As a senior member of the ERM team, you will have a critical role in shaping and developing our growing practice. On a day-to day basis, you will be supporting clients on a range of exciting ERM work, including:
  • Leading, in collaboration with the team's Partners, on the procurement and delivery of a range of innovative energy and resource management projects
  • Amending and finalising complex commercial contracts
  • Assisting clients to achieve their commercial objectives as part of an integrated advisory team
  • Developing deep and long-standing relationships with a range of public and private sector clients
  • Being part of a team that is driving forwards the UK's decarbonisation, sustainability and net zero agenda.

What we are looking for from you
Our talented ERM team consists of lawyers with a diverse range of skills and experience. We will consider candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experience including, for example, a lawyer with projects, construction or commercial expertise.
One of the key attributes we're seeking is a passion to learn, enthusiasm and the desire to excel as a lawyer in the ERM sectors. We are also looking for a team player, who enjoys delivering projects and is keen to share knowledge, skills and experience for the benefit of the wider team.
We will provide you with a range of support through a structured and bespoke development programme that will allow you to gain excellent experience, enhance your professional and personal development and offers transparent and achievable career progression opportunities.
The successful applicant will possess the following:
  • 5+ years' PQE
  • Commercial contracts or PFI/PPP experience
  • Private practice or in-house experience
  • Strong technical legal skills
  • Ability to understand and work through complex issues in a pragmatic and commercial manner
  • Experience and confidence to lead on the day-to-day interaction with clients supported by the team's Partners
  • Being a team player who is able to coordinate advice with lawyers from other disciplines.
  • Experience of supervising junior team members.
  • Some experience in business development with an ability and interest in growing the business
