About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking to make a critical leadership hire and appoint a new Energy Transition Director to shape and deliver its strategy in the evolving energy landscape.
This senior leader will maximise opportunities across the Energy Transition sector, leading the winning and delivery of complex projects such as converter stations, hydrogen, carbon capture, and energy storage. With full accountability for safety, financial performance, and growth, the role demands a strong strategic mindset, customer focus, and the ability to foster a high-performing, inclusive culture.
What you'll be doing

  • Drive work-winning activities and provide sector expertise to senior leadership for strategic planning.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of multiple projects, ensuring operational excellence and profitable outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring expectations are met and a robust pipeline of work is developed.
  • Lead on safety and sustainability, promoting best practices and continuous improvement across all operations.
  • Support and empower operational teams, fostering talent development and high performance.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, manage project risks, and contribute to effective tender proposals.

Who we're looking for
  • Proven leadership in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects in Power, Oil & Gas, Nuclear or similar sectors.
  • Expertise across FEED, ECI, and delivery phases of major construction programmes.
  • Strong track record in driving growth and entering new markets.
  • Commercially savvy with P&L ownership and strategic planning skills.
  • Inclusive leader who inspires, empowers, and builds high-performing teams.
  • Politically and commercially astute, with excellent stakeholder engagement.
  • Clear communicator who connects across all levels.
  • Values-driven, empathetic, and collaborative.
