Scottish Brain Sciences is a Life Sciences Company with Headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. We deliver clinical trials of new tests and treatments for a range of neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer's disease. We foster the rapid translation of research into practice to bring scientific progress out of the lab and into the community.
As our new
Engagement Officer
, you will play a pivotal role in connecting people with the opportunity to join our studies. Your work is critical to ensuring that people with Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), or a family history of dementia are given clear, supportive pathways to join our early detection and intervention studies.
You will be responsible for both outreach and promotion of research opportunities (through events and community engagement) and recruiting and onboarding our participants into the SBS programme (calling potential participants, explaining our trials and services, and setting up appointments).
Some of what you'll be doing:
Recruitment and Participant Onboarding:
Identify appropriate study opportunities for people on our registry.
Make initial calls to potential participants to explain research opportunities, eligibility, and next steps.
Provide clear, empathetic, and accurate information about trials and the benefits of early detection.
Schedule appointments for assessments, follow-up calls, or clinic visits.
Welcome participants, ensuring they feel comfortable during site visits.
Support participants and families throughout the onboarding journey, signposting to wider resources where appropriate.
Maintain accurate records in participant databases and ensure compliance with internal procedures, trial protocols, and MHRA, GDPR and other relevant regulation.
Outreach and Promotion
Plan and deliver engagement events (community talks, information sessions, health fairs).
Build relationships with community organisations, health professionals, and charities (e.g. Alzheimer Scotland, NHS services, carer groups).
Represent SBS at local and national events to raise awareness of brain health research.
Support in developing promotional campaigns and recruitment strategies.
Internal Collaboration:
Work closely with the wider engagement and clinical research teams, and also the study sponsor to align outreach and recruitment activities with trial needs.
Provide feedback on participant experiences to improve processes.
Contribute to team meetings and share learning from community interactions.
The skills, experience, and qualifications you'll bring:
Experience in community engagement, outreach, or participant recruitment (ideally within healthcare, charity, or research).
Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and supportive approach.
Results oriented mindset.
Great organisational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail.
A can-do, proactive and collaborative attitude that thrives in a busy environment with a varied workload.
Competence in Microsoft Office and with various electronic data-capture platforms.
Familiarity with data collection, storage, and analysis tools (e.g., Excel).
Even better if you have:
Knowledge of or interest in dementia, brain health, or clinical research.
A degree in the field of life science or marketing and communication.
Experience in event management
