We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This position within our building structures team will suit a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong technical and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high performing team.

This role can be undertaken as a hybrid working opportunity , balancing time spent working from home with time in one of our modern offices, ideally in Birmingham, Manchester, York or Leeds.

The opportunity to design building structures relating to transport infrastructure and energy such as stations, depots, and energy from waste plants in the UK and overseas, the post-holder will be part of a growing team of UK engineers delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.

The Engineer will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated civil engineering work packages, ensuring:

  • Delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the client\'s specifications
  • Project requirements are fully met.
  • Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget.
  • Compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued
  • Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company.
Main Duties

Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:
  • Adopt a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Develop design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications) in accordance with appropriate client requirements including, Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards
  • Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and represent value for money
  • Liaise with wider design team to ensure consistency and quality of deliverables across all projects.
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations
  • Prepare and check technical documents and reports
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in its development
  • Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check and approve the work of others; competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company.
  • Conceptual outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.
  • Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
  • Client and third party liaison.
An important part of the role will include working with the resources across the project - from local resources to others based at other design Technical Centres.

Skills and Experience
  • MEng in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Chartered or near chartered Engineer with relevant experience that includes developing structural designs for building structures.
  • Ability to design to British Standards & Eurocodes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with analysis / design software such as Tekla, Robot and Tedds would be beneficial.
  • Experience of working within a BIM environment is desirable.
