ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineer - Product Optimisation you will collaborate with the Functional Manager - Product Optimisation to deliver our product ambitions and to shape our Beyond100 strategy.

Working as part of a cross-functional team, you will be participating in the Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE) process, responsible for influencing the content of our future BEV projects through the identification of cost, weight, energy, sustainability and wellness improvement opportunities. The team operates a matrix structure and you will be asked to support our Competitor Analysis and Innovation Scouting activities at times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Benchmarking of competitor parts (including the potential for vehicle level teardown) and for the identification of technical solutions that offer a Cost advantage over current Bentley design practices without adversely compromising performance, quality or the customer offering.
  • Promoting \xe2\x80\x9cDesign for Cost\xe2\x80\x9d good practice into the business and for promoting the adoption of identified cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Support to Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE) activities on future projects:
  • To ensure the setting of achievable cost targets that support the delivery of the system requirements using the most appropriate design & manufacturing technology.
  • Identification of cost optimisation opportunities taken from benchmarking of competitor parts, industry best practice and from Bentley & VW group lessons learned.
  • Sharing of best practice, potential opportunities and process improvements with VW group colleagues.
  • Sharing of learning and the promotion of \xe2\x80\x9cDesign to Cost\xe2\x80\x9d best practice within R&D.
  • Promote a cost conscious culture.
The Function

As part of the EP - Product & Concepts department, the Product Optimisation Team utilise market trends data and competitor analysis to identify product optimisation opportunities relevant to our future products. We support the Product Line in the identification of cost optimisation opportunities through the Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE) process, support innovation through the identification of future opportunities and we also support the core R&D functions through the delivery of targeted competitor analysis and trend investigations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will be an Automotive Engineer ideally with experience in design or cost with a high level understanding of different areas of our cars. You will be familiar with a broad range of manufacturing techniques and comfortable challenging existing design and manufacturing practices.

You will demonstrate:
  • Project management experience and an ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Technically competent with a high level awareness many different manufacturing techniques.
  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written, with the confidence to challenge existing practices.
  • Awareness of Design for Cost and an understanding of the factors that influence material cost.
  • Previous experience of Value Analysis or Value Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Benchmarking and teardown experience.
  • An engineering degree or equivalent technical experience is required for this role.
  • German language skills would be advantageous but not essential.
