The Bettys Bakery Engineering Team is responsible for the procurement, maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of all equipment used to create, pack and deliver our famous baked goods. Our Team possess a cross-functional range of Engineering skills such as electronic, electrical and mechanical acumen, project management, as well as expertise in engineering compliance and legislation.
To help support our ambitious plans, we are offering a fantastic development opportunity for a maintenance Engineering Apprentice to join our Team on an initial four-year learning contract with a view to specialising in electrical and electronic engineering.
The Learning Contract
The course will start in September 2025, however the successful candidate can start before this date.
The learning contract will entail:
In the first year, there will be a blend of attendance at York College towards the achievement of an Engineering NVQ Level 3 and working on-site in different roles alongside Bakery Engineers gaining hands-on practical experience within the industry (number of days at college TBC).
In year two and three, attending York College one day per week on day release to study towards a BTEC qualification, with the potential to progress to higher education once the apprenticeship has been completed.
It is expected that in the final year of the apprenticeship you should be working unsupervised as a newly qualified Engineer. However, this vacancy comes with the caveat that there is no guarantee of a permanent position at the end of the learning contract.
Essential criteria:
Minimum of five C grades at GCSE including maths, science and English, or equivalent.
Desirable criteria:
Pass grade, or higher, in NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operation (Engineering Practices).
This is a great opportunity to lay the foundations towards a career in Engineering through a mix of educational study, hands-on experience, and an industrial insight into the changing world of food manufacturing through the production supply chain.
