About the role







The Engineering Director is responsible for leading the technical development strategy and execution of the development of specific products. Reporting directly to the CTO and serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Engineering Director provides strategic technical leadership and direction, ensuring alignment across technical teams and maintaining a consistent and robust software development lifecycle.



This role requires a seasoned technical leader with deep expertise in software engineering, agile methodologies, and cross-functional collaboration. The Engineering Director will mentor other technical leaders, fostering a cohesive and high-performing engineering culture. Working closely with the Head of Engineering Operations, they will ensure best practices are consistently implemented and tailored effectively across their individual products.



They will collaborate closely with their product's Product Director to define roadmaps and timelines, working jointly with customers and internal Learning Pool functions (such as Revenue and Marketing) to shape the future direction of the product. Additionally, they will collaborate closely with other Engineering Directors (Product Services, Learning Platform, Content Software) to ensure seamless integration and alignment across all technical platforms and services.

What you will be doing:





Roles and responsibilities include:




Own the strategic technical direction and delivery for their product set. Work closely with the Product Director to define and execute clear, customer-aligned product roadmaps and timelines. Collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering Operations to define and implement consistent engineering practices, standards, and processes suited to individual product needs. Partner with other Engineering and Product Directors to ensure integration and alignment of shared services Engage directly with customers to understand their issues, ensuring technical solutions align closely with customer needs and business goals. Ensure that development processes are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable, aligning closely with overall company objectives and customer requirements. Drive the continuous improvement of development practices and delivery methods, leveraging Agile and CI/CD best practices. Oversee budget and resource planning for technical development within the Platform, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources. Maintain high standards of quality and reliability, enforcing adherence to industry standards and regulatory compliance. Act as a senior technical advisor and mentor to Engineering Managers and Technical Leads, supporting their professional development and performance. Foster cross-functional collaboration and clear communication between technical teams, product management, sales, and customer success teams. Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure transparent, regular communication regarding development progress, issues, and resolutions. Champion innovation and continuous learning within engineering teams, encouraging proactive improvement and adoption of new technologies and methodologies.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:




Proven senior leadership experience: You will have significant experience managing large, agile technical teams within a software engineering environment. Extensive technical expertise: You will bring deep knowledge of software architecture, development, and integration across complex product ecosystems. Strategic execution: You will have a proven ability to design and deliver strategic technical roadmaps that align with business priorities. Agile and DevOps proficiency: You will demonstrate strong experience applying Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, quality assurance processes, and security best practices. Collaborative leadership: You will be highly effective at engaging and influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive shared outcomes. Communication and mentoring: You will possess excellent communication skills and a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing engineering teams. Continuous improvement mindset: You will actively seek opportunities to enhance engineering processes, practices, and performance. Commercial alignment: You will be experienced in aligning technical teams with business goals to deliver high-quality, customer-focused products. Educational background: A third-level qualification in Computer Science or a related field is desirable.
