Purpose of the Role:

You need to be able to use your own initiative, work proactively and, often, to strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment - in what are demanding but extremely rewarding roles.


Your placement will take place in one of four areas of the business:

Aerodynamics (including CFD) Design (including Mechanical, Composite, Structural Design) Performance (including Vehicle Dynamics, Simulation, Control Systems and Car, Driver and Competitor Performance). Racing (Strategy, Race Engineering & Operational Capability)

Role Dimensions:

The intern programme is a 1-year fixed term opportunity, and will see you working closely with the team and all levels of management.

Applications will close on Wednesday 1st October 2025. There will be a second round of assessment sent on the Friday 3rd October to be completed by the Monday 6th October.

The intern assessment day will be at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking on Wednesday 29th October or Thursday 30th October 2025.

If you are selected to attend the assessment day, you will be notified the week prior.

Principal Accountabilities:

We would expect the following from successful candidates:

Quick integration within teams to maximise effectivity. Delivering projects in your chosen project area that will directly impact on-track performance. Responsibility for specific projects, with guidance and support from team members.

This role may include race weekend support across the season, dependent on placement area.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The following attributes are required for this role:

Be studying a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or the Sciences with a minimum predicted grade of a 2:1 (or equivalent). General computing skills and software knowledge appropriate to placement area. e.g. a prior knowledge of CAD packages is useful for a design placement. Practical mindedness and a passion for motorsport. Previous experience in motorsport is desirable, but not required. You will need to be considering a placement year as part of your degree, ready to begin in summer 2026.

Proactivity and an aptitude for picking up skills and methods quickly. The ability to work well under pressure and with time constraints (with support provided to ensure this works well). An intelligent, data-driven approach to solving new and challenging problems, with strong problem-solving skills. The ability to learn and develop skills on the job, as well as to apply existing skills to new types of problems. Good communication and presentation skills to work effectively as part of a close-knit team, with shared responsibilities, working under challenging conditions.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Our state of the art, sustainable campus offers many facilities including a gym, restaurant and indoor and outdoor break-out areas, as well as direct access to park and common land. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
