About the Role




We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician with strong practical knowledge across Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering to join our team in London.


This is a hands-on, student-facing role, supporting teaching and research within our Engineering laboratories and workshops. You'll play a key part in creating an inspiring, safe, and innovative learning environment -- helping students bring their ideas to life through practical experimentation and applied engineering.

Key Responsibilities



Support learning and teaching activities within Engineering labs and workshops. Set up, demonstrate, and maintain a wide range of experimental rigs, tools, and teaching equipment. Provide technical advice, troubleshooting, and guidance to students and academic staff. Maintain and service laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and repairs are completed promptly. Uphold a strong health & safety culture, including maintaining risk assessments, COSHH documentation, and PAT testing records. Install, configure, and support specialist engineering software and lab computer systems. Procure, manage, and document laboratory consumables, equipment, and inventories. Contribute to accreditation visits, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support open days, marketing activities, and prospective student events. Lead and assist with lab upgrades and improvement projects.

Essential Requirements



Experience in a technical role within an industrial or higher education (HE) engineering environment. A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline, plus at least 2 years' relevant experience. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, equipment, and techniques. Proficiency with specialist engineering software and Microsoft Office tools. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A proactive, organised, and safety-conscious approach to work. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Attributes



Experience supporting students or apprentices in an educational or training setting. A Master's degree or membership of a professional institution (e.g. IMechE, IET). Experience developing training materials or lab documentation.
