We are seeking a passionate and driven

Engineering Manager

to lead and empower one of our core

software engineering

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in enabling our teams to deliver high-quality, impactful software solutions. Your primary focus will be the

day-to-day leadership

of an engineering squad, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and agile delivery.

Key Responsibilities



People & Team Leadership





Mentorship & Development:

Lead, mentor, and coach a team of

software engineers

, supporting their technical and professional growth, and facilitating career development plans.

Performance Management:

Conduct regular 1:1s, provide constructive feedback, manage performance reviews, and drive individual and team goal setting.

Team Building:

Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment where engineers feel empowered and motivated to achieve their best work.

Hiring & Onboarding:

Participate in the recruitment process for new

software engineers

and ensure a smooth onboarding experience.

Process & Delivery Excellence



Agile Evangelist:

Champion and implement effective

Agile methodologies

(Scrum, Kanban, etc.) to optimise workflow, predictability, and responsiveness within your team.

Delivery Management:

Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of

software projects and features

, ensuring alignment with the overall engineering roadmap and timely, high-quality releases.

Process Improvement:

Continuously identify and implement improvements to team processes, tools, and workflows to enhance the efficiency of

software delivery

.

Security and Quality Assurance:

Instil a strong culture of security and quality, advocating for best practices in testing, code reviews, documentation, and operational excellence for production systems.

Technical Guidance & Collaboration



Technical Facilitation:

While not a hands-on coding role, you will guide technical discussions, help resolve blockers, and ensure your team adheres to architectural principles and coding standards set in collaboration with the Head of Engineering.

Cross-Functional Liaison:

Work closely with

Product Managers

to refine requirements and manage backlogs. Collaborate with Science teams to translate complex domain requirements into robust

software solutions

(e.g., APIs, web portals).

Operational Health:

Monitor the operational health of your team's services, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.

The Engineering Environment





Core Technologies: Azure (Paas/IaaS), .NET, React, Angular, SQL/NoSQL databases. We maintain a clear appetite for adopting new, market-leading technologies to enhance our platform. Team: A focused, high-performing team of engineers, with plans for strategic growth. Work Style: We operate a hybrid model, requiring a minimum of three days per week in our London office to maximise collaboration and leadership presence.

Skills & Experience



Proven Engineering Management:

Demonstrated experience (typically 3+ years) in an Engineering Manager or Team Lead role, with direct responsibility for managing and developing

software engineers

.

Agile Expertise:

Strong understanding and practical experience with various Agile frameworks and a track record of implementing and refining processes for

software delivery

.

Technical Acumen:

Solid background in

software engineering

, ideally with exposure to our core stack or similar modern technologies (e.g.,

.NET, React, Angular, Azure

).

People-First Approach:

A genuine passion for developing people, building strong teams, and fostering a supportive and high-performing environment.
