Job Description

Qualifications, Experience & Skills



HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with experience in an engineering environment (or similar) essential Proven experience in workload coordination, planning and resource management within an engineering or manufacturing environment Experience and keen interest in people management, training and team building Strong organisational and planning skills, with a keen interest in systems development and process improvements IT literate and confident in using a range of business software for team communication, planning, and systems administration.

Summary of Job:



To always maintain strict confidentiality in relation to company matters, including product knowledge, and personnel communications (e.g., personal data, health, circumstances, disciplinary information and sensitive issues) Responsible for supporting the Engineering Manager with the smooth running of the Engineering department Responsible for coordinating projects and other engineering works, including scheduling, resource allocation, instigation/control, and compilation of all associated contract documentation within agreed operational time and cost restraints Responsible for assisting in the coordination of the Engineering, Vessel, R&D and Technical teams within the Engineering department Optimising Engineering performance through team building, staff morale and efficiency of systems, with the Engineering Manager and Technical Director Coordinating the Engineering department workload to distribute priorities from the Projects team Assisting the Engineering Manager to uphold the R&D KPIs, as set by the Technical Director

Staff relationship:



Directly responsible to the Engineering Manager (or Technical Director in their absence) and works under their direction for technical project decisions. Directly supervises all office based Engineers and Engineering apprentices, with overall responsibility with the Engineering Manager. Works closely with Lead Engineers Works closely with the Projects and Technical Directors Works with Vessel Consultants when required Liaises internally with all departments

Duties and responsibilities:



Shall be fully committed to the achievement of company policies and objectives with attention to quality, safety and environment
Engineering

Coordinates the delivery of large engineering projects with the Engineering Manager Manages the Contracts Engineer and coordinates engineering resources for smaller projects and Mod-Std contracts Responsible for organising workload and distribution for the Engineering department Assisting the Engineering Manager with establishing project requirements Coordinating appropriate technical staff to attend KOM/PIMto address engineering/technical aspects, if required, with the Engineering Manager Responsible for scheduling input in weekly project meetings Responsible for delegating/escalating project related issues and Engineering concession requests, if required Responsible for Engineering department discipline, ensuring office working procedures (including checking/approval) are maintained and performance is upheld
Vessels

Assigning suitably trained/qualified Engineers to fabrications and vessels, after the initial quotation stage, with Vessel Consultants, as required
R&D

Supports the Engineering Manager in coordinating the R&D team by administering resources, with priorities set by the Engineering Manager/Technical Director
Initiation

Involvement at pre-order/enquiry stage, where required, coordinating with the Engineering Manager to oversee the Engineering department in assisting Sales in preparing proposals and technical tender documentation
Design

Assisting the Engineering Manager with resource allocation to achieve cost-effective designs by integration of common parts and standardisation of components, which will not be limited to but include: Utilising the R&D department to achieve these objectives Assigning appropriately qualified Engineers to establish types and specifications of components and materials Assigning appropriately qualified Engineers to verify designs by calculations Assigning appropriate Engineers to design products that are safe and in accordance with the Health & Safety and Environmental policies of the company and other governing legislation Performing quality checks to ensure the designs have been reviewed and approved in accordance with company procedures
Material Procurement

Coordinates with appropriately qualified Engineers to issue electronic material requisitions (EMRs) and, where necessary, purchase order specifications to allow material requirements to be identified and sourced efficiently, economically and within contract time constraints
Instigation and Control

Coordinates the instigation and monitors the ongoing progress of projects/contracts from sales handover to Purchasing/Production, which shall include: Preparation of documentation to the client and all other documentation requirements to relevant parties (control and issue of documentation will be the responsibility of the Documentation department) Regular communication with the Engineers, Engineering Manager, Technical Director and Projects Director/Manager
Training & Reviews

Responsible for coordinating with the Engineering Manager and HR to ensure all Engineering department personnel training is scheduled and recorded in line with company procedures Responsible for scheduling and coordinating Engineering department Personnel Appraisals and one to ones, in liaison with the Engineering Manager and HR Coordinate with the Accounts department to book and record Engineering staff holidays, and maintain departmental records for timekeeping, working from home, training, sickness/illness, and time off in lieu (TOIL) in line with company policy.
Other

To undertake reasonable instructions and tasks from senior personnel commensurate with the nature of the job and in the best interest of the company

Hours of work



Office hours enable flexi-time working, covering a 37-hour week. Flexible start and finish times are available with core hours which must be covered each day. Monday to Thursday covers an 8-hour shift and Friday covers a 5-hour shift. Further details will be given at interview stage.
