The Engineering Project Manager for the Instron Dynamic Systems (Business Unit in the Dynamic Division of Instron, an ITW company) is a critical functional head within the business, working with all areas of the business to meet and exceed the growth and profitability goals through delivery of innovation projects.
This role has responsibility for leading multi-disciplinary Hardware team supporting the execution of the Dynamic Systems new product Roadmap; to ensure all projects are delivered efficiently, ensuring technological and commercial advantage for the business. Possessing a strong technical background, the Engineering Project Manager will also behave as a guide and mentor for the engineers.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Team Management:
o Support the Engineering Director to set and review the hardware engineering-wide performance objectives, with focus on program goals to efficiently deliver the Roadmap, Long-range plans and Strategy of the DS business.
o Participate in talent analysis; identify development opportunities and drive action plans for skills or competencies gaps to meet individual needs and the long-term vision for Engineering.
o Effective On-boarding and Performance Management; providing guidance, feedback and reflective learning opportunities to facilitate development towards full potential.
o Work with other managers to drive consistency in the execution of projects, create opportunities for development across the department and promote inclusive working practices.
o Champion and oversight of safer working practices throughout all aspects of new and established activities; ensuring adherence to all H&S procedures, proactive risk management and appropriate training.
2. Project Management and Execution:
Effective project life cycle management from planning through to delivery including:
? Planning and allocation of work packages, responsibilities and resources
? Monitoring and evaluation of progress against the plan (quality, time and costs)
? Own and ensure timely communication with stakeholders regarding progress, interdependencies and risk factors.
? Proactively address any potential risk factors related to design, process, delivery or budget which could impact overall project success.
3. Compliance: Ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and industry regulations. Maintain knowledge of all current (and upcoming changes to) relevant regulations and disseminate updates.
4. Participate in continuous improvement activities related to processes, procedures, documentation and implementation.
Key Competencies and Experiences (includes skills)

  • Experience in leading a full-cycle new product development process delivering the expected outcomes for multiple projects, multiple product lines and multiple expertise.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead and motivate teams effectively
  • Understands complex dependencies between projects with clear insight on the impact of a change (e.g. stakeholder expectations, resource, budget, delivery).
  • Established technical expertise with the ability to mentor and develop technical and project management competencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including; maintaining good working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, presenting to senior decision-makers and encouraging active participation at all levels in meetings.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with relevant work experience
  • Should hold at least one of the following: Chartered member of IMECHE, Project Management qualification or similar professional organisation.
