Job Description

This is What You'll Actually Do

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of multiskilled engineers across all shifts, ensuring high performance and strong communication.
  • Oversee both planned and reactive maintenance, balancing priorities to maintain high levels of plant uptime and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with the Preventative Maintenance Plan (PPM) through effective use of the Ultimo CMMS system.
  • Analyse engineering downtime, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions to improve asset care and performance.
  • Use engineering data and KPIs to validate results, prioritise workload, and inform decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, service, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Promote a strong engineering culture built on safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Technical, HSE, Compliance, Ops Support and external contractors to deliver engineering excellence.
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet food safety, hygiene, and statutory compliance standards.
Ideally, This is You!
Essential:
  • A minimum NVQ Level 3 in an engineering sector; an HNC/HND in Engineering or Leadership is highly desirable, with any additional relevant qualifications considered an advantage
  • Proven experience leading or supervising a multiskilled engineering team within manufacturing.
  • Strong technical understanding of asset care, reliability principles, and engineering best practice.
  • Confident using CMMS systems (Ultimo experience highly beneficial).
  • Strong influencing, communication, and coaching capability.
  • Ability to analyse technical data and make informed, practical decisions.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to lead effectively across a 24/7 operation.
  • A solid understanding of PPM, health and safety legislation, and engineering compliance.
Desirable:
  • Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools or approaches.
  • Understanding of bakery processes and automation systems.
  • Experience with small-scale projects or improvement initiatives.
