Overview

Operational Capability and Development (OCaD) is responsible for:

  • The development and delivery of strategic and tactical engineering solutions to operational challenges and emerging technological threats focused on serious and organised crime impacting the UK.
  • Deployment of hi-end capabilities in support of live operations, providing NCA with capabilities for 21st century law enforcement.
OCaD leads on specifying, designing, developing, delivering and supporting new technical operational capabilities across the agency.

Responsibilities:
  • Installation, upgrading and support of technical hardware, operating systems, software and peripherals.
  • Provide support of the incident, problem, configuration and change processes which affects the infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate applications to the user(s) initiating roll - out following approval.
  • Train user(s) on the usage of applications and technical systems as required.
  • Conduct application support - (Bug Fixing) to include investigation and analysis of application issues, replicate issues on test systems and investigate database and/or code to identify faults and produce/ test proposed solutions.
  • Maintenance (Upgrades): Maintain currency with technological advancements and user requirements update, repair, modify and expand existing applications as per user requests.
  • Prepare and draft documentation to include User requirements, Application Design, SRDs, RFCs and User manuals.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues on software tools and applications.
  • Support of any other technical infrastructure as directed.
Qualification Required:
  • HND or Degree in a technical / scientific related discipline would be an advantage but not essential
  • ITIL
  • ICND1 or CCNA.
Knowledge Required:
  • A very good understanding of Windows Operating systems
  • A good working knowledge of computer networks TCP/IP and internet connectivity
  • A good knowledge of Virtual Server environments VMWARE, Physical Servers, installation and configuration
  • Good problem-solving skills
Working Format:

Normal working days are Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.Standard working hours are 37 per week excluding breaks (an average of 7 hours and 24 minutes excluding breaks per day).For each working day that exceeds 6 hours, a minimum break of 30 minutes (unpaid) must be taken.

Induction:

Contractors are required to attend an on boarding session, this may be prior to or soon after the commencement of their engagement. This will be arranged between NCA HR and the Contractor.
