A secondary school in Richmond is looking for an English Academic Mentor to provide targeted support to pupils in English across Key Stages 3 and 4. This English Academic Mentor role is perfect for graduates with strong literacy and communication skills who are interested in teaching, publishing, or further academic study. You will support pupils with essay writing, analysis of texts, and preparation for exams, ensuring that all learners have the tools they need to succeed.
As an English Academic Mentor, you will deliver one-to-one tuition, run small group workshops, and work alongside English teachers to reinforce key skills. You will also help pupils develop confidence in creative and analytical writing, broaden their vocabulary, and improve overall literacy.
The role provides practical experience of supporting learning in a school environment and offers an excellent pathway towards teacher training or postgraduate study in English or education.
Key responsibilities:

• Supporting pupils in English lessons and during study sessions
• Running small group interventions on reading, writing, and exam skills
• Providing one-to-one academic support and targeted guidance
• Assisting teachers with resource preparation and marking support

• A UK undergraduate degree in English or a related subject (2:1 or above)
• Excellent communication and written skills
• A passion for literature, language, and education
• Commitment to the full academic year
