SOFEA SM is an education provision for post 16 . learners. We specialise in teaching young people who have significant barriers to learning. This role is responsible for the delivery of the English as part of the post 16 Study Programme.
Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver lessons to young people aged between 16 and 25 (with EHCP) with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.
Mark work, give appropriate feedback and maintain records of learners' progress and development.
Select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment, including adapting materials according to the learner's needs.
Prepare learners for qualifications and external examinations.
Manage learner behaviour.
Communicate with parents and carers over learners' progress.
Supervise and support the work of teaching assistants (where applicable).
Participate in and organise extracurricular activities, such as outings, social activities and visits.
Undergo regular observations and participate in regular in-service training as part of continuing professional development (CPD).
Observe and adhere to all Safeguarding regulations and policies.
Any other duties as and when required by the organisation.
Skills and Experience
Essential :
Qualified Teacher with the ability to deliver English successfully at Functional Skills and GCSE level.
Respect for learners and an interest in helping them develop both academically and as people.
Excellent communication skills for working with disaffected learners, learners with disabilities and their parents/carers.
The ability to adapt to teaching other areas such as Life Skills
Good listening skills.
The capacity to learn quickly.
Strong organisational skills.
The ability to inspire and enthuse young people.
Energy, resourcefulness and patience.
A caring nature and an understanding of the needs and feelings of young people who have had poor life experiences.
Experience working with young people who haven't progressed in mainstream education would be advantageous.
The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
A sense of humour and the ability to keep things in perspective.
