About the Role


We are seeking a dedicated

English Teacher

to join our team, working with

KS3 and KS4

students who face

SEND

and

SEMH

challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on the academic and personal growth of students who may have faced barriers to learning in mainstream settings. You will be teaching to small classrooms sizes of around 6-8 students. Your role will be to inspire students in English while supporting their emotional and social development.

Key responsibilities

:

To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of your subject(s) and take account of wider curriculum and pastoral developments which are relevant to your work. To plan tutorials, activities, lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students' individual learning needs. To use a range of appropriate strategies and follow schools policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management To do all you can, involving parents and other agencies, to ensure that as a result of your tutoring and teaching you promote the health, safety, economic wellbeing and achievement of your students. To assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your teaching and tutorial groups and give them clear and constructive feedback. To set well-grounded expectations for students in your teaching and tutorial groups using information about prior knowledge and previous attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally. To take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve your tutoring and teaching and your students' learning. To make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of learners, working as part of the EdStart teaching staff

Required Skills & Experience



A

degree

in English or a related subject, with

PGCE or equivalent

At least 2 years' experience

in teaching

English

Strong ability to

differentiate

teaching methods to meet the needs of students with a range of academic and emotional challenges. A passion for working with students with

SEN

and

SEMH

, and a commitment to their academic, emotional, and social development. Experience using

behaviour management

strategies to support students with challenging behaviours. Excellent

communication

skills, with the ability to engage students, parents, and colleagues in a constructive and supportive manner. A patient, empathetic, and solutions-focused approach to teaching and supporting students.

Student Engagement:

Create an engaging classroom environment where students feel supported and confident in tackling English challenges, regardless of their academic starting point.

Differentiated Learning:

Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate the individual learning styles of students, ensuring each student can access and make progress in the English curriculum.

Assessment & Feedback:

Regularly assess student understanding of English concepts, providing clear and actionable feedback to guide their improvement.

Behaviour Management:

Consistently implement effective behaviour management strategies to ensure a positive, focused, and productive classroom environment.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work collaboratively with colleagues, including SENCo and teaching assistants, to ensure the best outcomes for students. Maintain regular communication with parents and carers about their child's progress and areas for support.

Professional Growth:

Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed of the best practices in teaching English to students with SEND and SEMH, and integrate these into your classroom practice.
