Ent Speciality Registrar

Job Description

The post holder will work in collaboration with clinical colleagues to provide a comprehensive ENT service to patients in the Wrexham area. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner; that on-call commitments are covered appropriately and that the principles of risk management and clinic governance are maintained at all times.



Provide and develop further with clinical colleagues ENT services for the Organisation in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care, where appropriate, to provide an integrated service for patients.



Participate in the development of the ENT service, treatment, protocols and guidelines and the greater knowledge in the management of ENT conditions.



Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.



Participate in the on-call rota to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out of normal working hours and in the daytime on-call rota to ensure that emergency services are not disrupted as a result. Daytime on-call will entail responsibility for supervision of junior trainees.



Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.



Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, risk management and clinical audit. This will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.



Ensure own practice is up-to-date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participating in the organisation's performance and annual review system.



Wrexham Maelor Hospital is a district general hospital in North East Wales serving a catchment population of 300,000. It is situated on the outskirts of Wrexham. The catchment area extends beyond Wrexham to include parts of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Powys, south Gwynedd, Cheshire and Shropshire. Wrexham is the largest town in North Wales, having a thriving and diverse industrial centre and also being the market town for a large rural hinterland. With the decline in the local coal and steel industries there has been a steady progression towards light industry in the area, including electronics, pharmaceuticals and plastics. North Wales has excellent dual carriageway connections to the main motorway system. Chester is 10 miles away by dual carriageway and both Manchester and Liverpool are about 45 minutes from Wrexham by car.

There are some clinics in the community hospitals in the catchment area.



The post holder will be required to participate fully in the education and training of medical students, trainee doctors, nursing and other appropriate staff.



North Wales NHS Organisation - East Area is a teaching hospital which forms part of the North Wales Clinical Medical School. Medical students come from both Cardiff and Manchester Medical Schools. The candidate is expected to take part in educational activities and to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in otolaryngology and ENT.
