SHD Composite Materials Ltd are the leading edge of advance composites technology and manufacture a wide range of thermoset prepregs, which include carbon, glass, aramid, natural and hybrid fabrics whilst also offering a toll impregnation service.
Person Specification
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing all environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and environmental management systems within the company. This individual will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to meet ISO 14001 environmental standards, ensuring the company's practices reduce environmental impact while improving overall environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and maintain an ISO 14001 compliant EMS to meet environmental objectives and legal compliance.
Lead efforts to obtain and maintain iso 14001 certification, ensuring the company's environmental management practices are up to date with standards and regulations.
Lead the carbon accounting initiatives by working with internal champions and external companies to drive forward SHD's carbon accounting and consequently reduce the company's carbon footprint.
Drive sustainability efforts in all areas of the business, focusing on waste reduction, energy efficiency and sustainable materials sourcing.
Monitor and ensure compliance with all local, state and federal environmental laws and regulations and proactively address potential non-compliance issues.
Provide training and support to employees on environmental policies, procedures and best practices, fostering a culture of sustainability throughout the organisation.
Conduct internal environmental audits to assess performance and identify areas for improvement. Prepare and present audit reports to senior management.
Prepare and submit necessary environmental reports, including waste management, energy consumption, emissions and other relevant metrics ensuring transparency and compliance.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performance, monitoring the effectiveness of implemented solutions, and identifying new opportunities for enhancement.
Work closely with cross-functional teams' group wide, including Finance, Production, R&D, Quality, Product Technology Management and Health and Safety to integrate environmental considerations into product design and operational processes.
To undertake any other duties from time to time as can be reasonable requested by the company.
Skills and Ability
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability or a related field (

ISO 14001 lead auditor or internal auditor certification (

Experience working in the composite or manufacturing industry (

Familiarity with other environmental certifications or sustainability frameworks (e.g., ISO 50001, LEED, etc.) (

Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, industry standards, and environmental management systems.
Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across various teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and implement operational improvements.
Familiarity with environmental reporting and documentation processes.
Ability to travel to Group locations if required.
