Your role
Your role will be that of discipline lead for Environmental Assessment. You will be expected to provide technical expertise and guidance, manage complex projects and contribute to business development to drive growth and innovation across Environmental Assessment and influence our work within planning policy at a strategic level. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of professionals working in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions and deliver consent for projects providing resilience to the effects of climate change.
Many of our projects will relate to our framework success with the Environment Agency, but we also have a portfolio of development and planning projects for local authorities, third sector and private commercial clients, which we are looking to grow further and diversify.
Responsibilities will include:
Business development, including input into our company-wide Service Plan, networking and pursuing new sector or client opportunities and tender preparation
Collaboration and management of existing clients and development of relationships with new clients
Company-wide technical leadership and delivering excellence in EIA, SA and SEA. This will include having technical oversight of deliverables and providing expertise, guidance and technical review of other's work
Coordinating statutory and non-statutory project-level EIA / environmental assessment / SEA / consenting and permitting activities
Leading on / delivering work within other relevant disciplines e.g. ecology, landscape, heritage, catchment management, stakeholder engagement, etc.
Maintaining our IEMA EIA Quality Mark accreditation
Project management, ensuring adherence to quality standards, health and safety, programmes and budgets
Staff mentoring, professional development and performance feedback
Sharing of knowledge, best practice and innovation.
The team member we are looking for:
We are looking for candidates with a positive and professional attitude, who can demonstrate a proactive and creative approach to problem solving. The role will be client facing and confidence in working with clients in relation to project delivery and business development is essential, as is experience in the preparation of bids and proposals. You must be used to working in a team, have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective verbal and written communicator.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Planning, a related subject, or demonstrable professional experience which allows you to evidence your technical expertise.
Professional accreditation with IEMA, preferably CEnv, or with another relevant professional body e.g. RTPI. We will consider candidates who are not Chartered and will support you through the process of becoming Chartered.
Essential attributes for the role:
A track record in business development, leading and expanding work across new clients and sectors.
Demonstrable experience in leading or delivering EIA, SA and SEA projects in a variety of fields / sectors.
An ability to collaborate within and influence a team of multi-disciplinary colleagues, to deliver the objectives of large and complex projects and ensure high-quality solutions are developed.
Track record of project delivery, with strong commercial and programme awareness and confidence in working with clients.
Strong understanding of environmental legislation, relevant policy and guidance and awareness of updates.
Desirable attributes for the role:
A broad understanding of a wide range of specialist environmental disciplines and planning.
Experience of leading assessment for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects / Development Consent Order submissions.
Experience of a wider range of environmental permits and consents e.g. ecological, FRAP, waste etc.
Experience and understanding of environmental assessment, management and monitoring during construction.
Experience of delivering innovation in assessment and design.
Experience of working in coastal and river settings and within the energy sector.
Location:
The role will preferably be based at our, Newcastle NE1 1FQ, Newport NP20 1FQ, Haywards Heath RH16 3BW or Saltaire BD18 3LF offices, other offices may be considered for exceptional candidates. It is expected that the role will involve a significant degree of cross office working and it is important to us that you attend the office on a regular basis.
